Chocolate and black malts lend a strong roastiness to balance the intense hopping of this haughty Black IPA.

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is roasted malt with fruity and piney hops, chocolate, tropical notes, grapefruit, coffee, citrus. Flavour is moderate sweet with a firm bitterness in the finish. Body is medium. Quite tasty, nicely roasty and hoppy with chocolate, pine, fruits and a solid bitterness.

From a cool looking can with jap godzilla on it. Poor is big and black. Smell is dark beer and mild for an IPA. Taste is at first big impact but then it fades into a more malty dark beer attitude. Does have some decent mild creamy co2. In the middle, the IPA is trying to come back and then it does finish with a pretty tuff attitude of bitter dark beer. For this lager lover, its a little better than the typical straight up rude ass black IPA.

Bottle. Deep dark brown color. Soft roast and citrus in the aroma. Roasty sweet flavor with citrus and tart notes. Slightly faded hops, but enough legt to make this a nice beer.

On tap at Howells & Hood. Almost black with a tan head. Aroma of hops, dark chocolate, some licorice and grapefruit. Similar taste. Nicely balanced and with a bitter finish. A tasty one.

Bottle. Pours a deep blackish brown with a frothy tan head. Aromas are a mix of powdered chocolate and pine needles and flavor is similar with most of the kick coming from resinous piney hops in the finish. It’s very nicely balanced for a BIPA and an excellent example of the style...

Location: Draft at Girl and the Goat, 7/5/14

Aroma: The nose is a nice mix of chocolate malts and pine/resiny hops
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a nice forth of tan/light brown head
Flavor: The taste is similar to the nose, nice balance, some sweetness, but leans bitter
Palate: The body is medium, it has a solid mouthfeel, smooth, with a decent dryness
Overall Impression: A very nice example of the style overall. I enjoyed this beer, and I also thought it held up well with the food at this excellent restaurant.

bottle - Pours black with a one finger, tan head. The aroma is of roast malt with underlying citrus. It tastes of roasted malt with high bitterness and some nice pine character. It works.

Taster at Standard Market, and I’m finally popping the cap on my first Greenbush beer, too. Oh, yes, Amarillo right up the nose on the first sniff. This would indeed be a beer to inspire anger. Black with some brown highlight, and a persistent stoutlike-head. Taste is hit up hard by catbox Amarillo and Simcoe, which overrides much of the malt profile. Still, I get some spiciness from wheat more than any roastiness. A very light mouthfeel makes up for the rough palate, light carbonation makes it feel almost like there was some nitro involved (which there wasn’t). Alcohol starts to kick in after the second ounce, so be careful not to swig this.
