750mL bottle at Cantillon. Pours murky blonde with a white head. Musty nose, a bit of fermented fruit skins. Flavour has tart, funky citrus peels, old furniture, some leather. Very nice.

Grape lambic by Cantillon - the genre they pioneered and still excel in - made with grapes from the Tarlant winery in France, which tends to 14 hectares of vines in the Champagne region, mostly Pinot Noir but also Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier, all of which were processed into this lambic, coming with gold plated accents on its luxurious front label. Medium thick, snow white, opening but edge-retaining head, hazy golden robe with warm apricot tinge. Rich bouquet of grape skins and grape seed oil at first, damp cellar, old cheese rind, clear but oxidized Chardonnay wine, champagne indeed but not overly strong as such, yellow kiwi, oak wood, nutty sherry in the background, unripe apricot, sour orange, green walnut, dried lemon peel, wet leather, slight urine (Brett) faraway in the background. Tart, fruity onset, unripe apricot, cooked yellow plum and of course lots of tart, crisp grape, with both Pinot and Chardonnay being recognisable, surrounded by an orange-like, citric effect, medium carb, supple vinous body. Lactic tartness takes over but it too remains very fruity and thus carries along this grapey fruitiness over a wheaty, rounded grainy core, towards a more tannic finishing stage in which grape skins, seeds and juice remain prominent, mingling with lovely citrusy effects from the lambic itself. Some very light grape seed and old hop bitterishness lingers underneath but briefly so. Complex, 'mals' and woody finish, utterly noble, perfectly finetuned and gracious as well as being very quenching (on a warm spring day) at the same time: this is truly beautiful, one magnificent Cantillon creation like there have been relatively few in the past couple of years. A rare gem even to Cantillon's very high standards, the finest beer I had today even - and I went to both Cantillon and 3 Fonteinen...

Puuviljane, happeline, tsitrus, kuiv, tugev balsamico, viinamarjad. Ok, jälle väga happeline minu jaoks, aga samas päris huvitav maitsebukett...

750mL bottle, 2021 cork, at Ma Che Siete, May 2, 2024. Clear, bright hay-maize-golden. Instantly-fizzling head leaves a tiny ring. Bright and juicy grape with excellent Brett and lactic acidity. Funky, not phenomenally so, with malt depth and a bit of barnyard on the end, lovingly so. Lots of zesty citrus, deep mineral (more chalk than sulphur). Lingering zesty acidity and piquant grape. Soft, with tight carbonation, a surprising amount of malt and tons of juicy, lightly acidic grapes with Bretty orange wine character and lingering, lip-smacking acids mixing with rich malt. More brett-forward than it is barnyardy, currently. Low oak, little/no acetic. Excellent, interesting stuff without big, pervasive grape acid. This is going to age magnificently. Score represents that, as I think it's a bit too youthful yet.

Bottle at Cantillon. Pours a cloudy orange gold with small white head that lasts. The aroma is strong funk, champagne yeast, floral, wood. Slick body, similar flavors to nose, funky, dry finish, enjoyed this.

750mL bottle, pours a hazy bright golden with a small white head. Aroma is effervescent, with intense champagne-like effervescence, moderate funk, and musty grape skins. Flavour is as close to champagne as Cantillon gets, with lots of bone dry white grape must, moderate funk, and some hay. Complex, dry, highly carbonated and musty. Wonderful.

Bottle at the brewery. Pours lightly hazed orange-gold with a creamy, off-white head. Lightly sweet with pleasant tart citrus notes, some salty acidity, mellow grassy notes, tangerine, melon. Light to medium bodied with delicate, massaging carbonation. Super clean finish, lightly flinty, nips of lemon, soft pale wood. Delightful.
