A fruited IPA brewed using oranges that may not be 'perfect' by society's narrow beauty standards due to little scars and blemishes but are just as adorable, healthy and delicous.
We brewed Citrus Rescue alongside fellow B Corp, Imperfect Foods, with the goal of educating beer drinkers about the state of our broken food system, working to change the perception around the aesthetics of food, and encouraging more people to take steps to reduce food waste in their own lives – practices that can help alleviate hunger, slow climate change, and support farmers. Together, we've put together a few life hacks you can incorporate into your own daily routine to adopt food-rescue practices and make easy improvements in your own day-to-day footprint.
To make Citrus Rescue IPA, we used approximately 35,000 imperfect oranges from Imperfect Foods’ supply chain of farmers looking to sell previously unwanted produce. The beer was dry hopped with Citra, Lotus and Mosaic hops to amplify those citrus flavors for a tangy, orange fruited like experience.

Pours hazy yellow orange with a one finger off white head. It smells of oranges and hop resin. The flavor is juicy and mild to moderately bitter with prominent oranges and some piney hop character, and solid malt. Medium body. Looks and drinks like a hazy ipa.

12 oz. can. Pours a hazy, yellow color, with a smallish, white head. The nose is orange peel, butterscotch, apricot, rose, and light lemon. Sweet and zesty, without much bitterness. Light to medium body, grainy, and a bit acidic. Fun, but nothing special.

Can from Livonia Liquor. Pours a clearish straw gold with a fluffy finger of white foam that lingers. Liked this one a lot. Great citrusy, pithy notes. Nice yeast, some mineral and solid hops. Excellent crusher.

Let me volunteer right off, I’m glad there is a place for imperfect looking fruit. A 12 oz can coming from the better of the local HEBs for lowering the risk by offering singles. I pull out my, ta-da, New Belgium globe glass for this sampling. An impenetrable, light yellow body finished by a foamy head of fully white, minute bubbles. I detect imperfect fruit and straw. A drink now. Some varnish, lemon if I have to select a fruit and the barest bit of hops. Not bad really but not much to recommend. I have to call it imperfect.

12oz can. Pale hazy straw colored pour, small foamy head slowly fades. Full aroma of citrus, oranges and tangerines. Taste is also very juicy, even if the body is a bit thin. Super citrusy and easy to drink
