Beer sent for review. For 2016, instead of three single hop releases, Heavy Handed went all Cascade. The beer pours a deep amber to brown, darker than the usual IPA, under a sudsy head. I get piney notes of Cascade hops in the nose, without much bitterness, followed by a hint of resin. Wet hop beers are usually described as "sticky," and this one fits the mold. Sticky like diluted tree sap, in fact. But there’s also a caramel toasted malt note that’s close to an English brown ale, with extra carbonation. But the hops stay in the forefront. Not quite "green" as with some fresh-hopped ales, but definitely strong enough to let you appreciate the effort that does into this trendy offshoot. This also should be noted for leaving s hoppy and lactic aftertaste, and a bit of alcohol-induced giddiness.

12oz bottle. A pretty solid, classic East Coast UK-style IPA. Filtered amber-caramel-honey deep orange. Frothy off-white head. Balanced, even malt heavy. Mellow, deep resinous tones. A great IPA, clean and drinkable, with pleasant earthy, vegetal hop tones. Good stuff.

12oz bottle (per their website it appears there are three versions of this but I failed to notice which version this was) pours with a clear copper body that supports a wispy tan head. The modest aroma offers up floral hops, herbal notes, a bit of pine hops and then faint tropical fruit off in the background. The taste delivers some resiny pine hops, bitter floral and spicy like hops and then a thin island of citrus fruitiness to about midway. Toward the finish a pleasing earthy tea note joins the fun. Pretty nice hoppy brew and I’m enjoying this hop medley.
