Tap into a snifter showing pitch black with a finger of latte colored foam. The nose shows a bed of roasted malts with a moderately sweet lactose note throughout. The palate is smoothly carbonated and medium bodied. Cloying and highly sweet yet clashes with the high ABV spiciness. Wanted to spit it out but couldn’t find a rubbish bin. This was horrific.

Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a light oily head and a lighter brown glow on top when titled, only about 75% opaque. Aroma of roasted malt, vanilla pods, alcohol, licorice, aniseed, fennel, caramel and toffee along with some pungent nuttiness as well. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong roasty flavours with alcohol, caramelised sugars, grain, toffee, coffee and earth all noticeable along with quite a bit of bitterness, lactose and even a bit of funk noticeable. Aftertaste shows the alcohol, the bittered malt and caramelised or even burnt sugars along with some light hop notes, a bit of caramel and complexity along with just a lot of alcohol and malt. Overall, a rich beer with some nice flavours, but not as complete an Imperial Stout as expected nor one worth storing for long periods of time - a touch thin on the end. I sampled this 32 ounce growler fill on draught from Whole Foods in Fair Lakes (Fairfax), Virginia on 06-November-2016 for just US$5,00 sampled at home in Washington (and added to Chili) on 10-November-2016.

4 oz pour on draft at Ocelot. Dark brownish black with tan head. Aromas of dark chocolate, licorice, roasty notes. Tastes of dark chocolate, licorice, slight dark fruit, some booze. Full body with a dry finish. Not my favorite imperial stout from Ocelot but it’s pretty solid.
