We brewed Friendshake in collaboration with our friends at @bellwoodsbeer in Toronto. Bellwoods have a long history of brewing excellent beers of all styles. Since we are big fans of their fruited IPAs we decided to take some tips from them to brew one together. Friendshake is an IPA with Bumbleberry & Vanilla; dry-hopped at our regular IPA hopping rate with hefty additions of raspberry, blueberry, strawberry, lactose, and Tahitian vanilla.
Late last year we visited the folks at Bellwoods to work on two collabs you might have seen kicking around online. Sadly, these were not up for grabs in BC. Now it's our turn with Friendshake!
Bellwoods has been on our hit-list for a while! We had a collabo lined up for our opening but COVID screwed that up. Bellwoods shares a similar outlook but still does totally different things with their beer. This is exactly what we're looking for when it comes to collaborations. For instance, we were always pretty opposed to putting fruit in an IPA, and in ever using the word "Milkshake" to describe a beer. But look at us now.

Deep cloudy purple with a rich pink head. Candied dark berry notes. Sweet non descript dark berry notes and a light candy finish.

Purple and cloudy/sludgey. Lots of hops, the overpower the fruit on the nose. On the palate the vanilla softens things, and so do the berries. Makes for a rounded milkshake IPA.

Poured from the tap. Hazy pinkish purple with minimal white head. Berry and mild citrus hop. Pretty useless.

Draught at the brewery; 12oz
Turbid maroon colour. Nice berry aroma. Good body, semi-sweet, juicy berry; as often happens, the vanilla clashes with the fruits; similarly, there some disturbing vegetable bitterness.
It's drinkable, but clumsy and rough. One point less for the minimum serving size of 12oz, fuck that.
