0.15cl at Moeder Lambic Fontainas.
Loads of sherry, noticeable vinous sweetness. No carbonation, a lot of sherry, woody. Interesting.

Lambic aged in a cask of amontillado – Edgar Allen Poe’s chilling story of the same name springing to mind – from, who else, sherry-aged lambic specialist (among many other things) 3 Fonteinen. Special one-off made exclusively for Billie’s Craft Beer Fest 2023, though I suspect a lone bottle of this may still pop up every here or there long after the festival… Egg-white, open, thin ring of foam on a clear, warm and deep golden-orange robe. Beguiling bouquet of indeed very obvious amontillado sherry, candied orange, oaky ‘vanilla’, apple vinegar, sour apricot, red apple, mandarin, old dusty cellar, peach kernel, green-yellow plum, old dry white wine. Tart onset, unripe oranges, some gooseberry and unripe peach, crabapple and rhubarb perhaps, (very) softly tingling effervescence and lovely vinous mouthfeel; lactic acidity dries, but remains colourful and fruity all the way through a bready core with a wave of citrusy and stonefruity effects in its trail. Tart fruit and drying tannic wood effects, along with a late and ‘deep’ bitter note more reminiscent of citrus pith than hops, are engulfed in a beautiful wave of fruity, bright, noble amontillado – 3 Fonteinen demonstrates here once again how spectacularly sophisticated and beautiful a marriage of lambic and sherry can be. This was an absolute masterpiece for me, on a par with some of the best Zenne y Frontera editions.

4 year old lambic aged on an amontillado cask. Pours darker copper, no real head. Scent is full, intense amontillado nose. Taste is sharp, tartness is very mild. Full on sherry ! More sherry than lambic, this is like an Amontillado made in Lot ! And why would I dislike that ?

Spritziger, intensiv säuerlicher Beginn. Weich, dann wieder Essig, leichte Sherry Noten, rund. Sehr süffig. 9/11/9/10/7/10

11/XI/23 - on tap @ Billies Craft Beer Festival (Antwerp), Day 2 - part 1, BB: n/a (2023-962) Thanks to Sebletitje, ElManana, 77ships, Eve and others for sharing today’s beers!
Clear amber to copper coloured beer, no head. Aroma: very oxidized, lots of port, wet cardboard, wet rags, smells dirty and old, not very inviting. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bitter start, dry, tannins, woody, soft acidity, very oxidized, more cardboard. Aftertaste: all oxidation, cardboard, sherry, a little fruity, some sour cherries. Meh.
