Wheated Bourbon Barrel Aged Triple Blend Imperial Stout
A triple blend Imperial Stout aged for 19 months in Old Fitzgerald Wheated Bourbon barrels.
Every now and then when you work with barrel aging of beer, you end up with leftovers. Perhaps the batch you brewed yielded more than there was room for in the designated barrels. Or the opposite could happen: you have a barrel or two too many. And sometimes you find yourself in the happy situation that the surplus beer can be paired with a leftover barrel. And that's exactly how the Tiny Batch Series was created. Born and nursed by our tender and caring Head Brewer, Jacob Storm, as if they were his own little babies. But 'tiny' must be taken literally - there's only a few hundred bottles of each beer in this series!
'Kaelego' is the kind of demon that materializes out of a true witches' blend. In this case we stirred up such a blend from leftovers of nothing less than three different Imperial Stouts: Double Black Mash, BLack NOrdic Skies and Sam Bass (without the Tonka Beans). This hellish mélange was then poured into an Old Fitzgerald Bourbon barrel and put to rest for no less than 19 months. But now Kaelego is back.....
Malt: Pilsner, Pale Ale, Munich, Roasted Barley, Crystal 150, Cara-Pils, Melanoidin, Cara-Aroma, Chocolate, Low Chocolate, Black, Special B, Wheat Malt. Organic San Fermin coffee.
Hops: Columbus, Chinook, Cascade, Citra
Yeast: US-Ale, UK-Ale

0.33l bottle. Pitch black body, fleeting head. Enormous aroma, heavy dark carmel, dried figs, vanilla, heaps of dust, milk chocolate underneath. Sweetish taste, raisins, caramel, dust, ash, tobacco, milk chocolate, smooth, drinkable. Bit past its prime, but it WAS out of the fridge for years. Gotta respect how drinkable it is for the ABV, even if it's a bit rough, slightly warming.
