A lagered porter is a pretty interesting concept. Taking darker roast heritage barley Chevalier, and bottom fermenting it to give it some fizz. A rich, bubbling dark beer hopped with Mosaic.

Can from Westhill Service Station. It pours near enough black (darkest ruby when held up to direct light) with a decent tan cap. The aroma is rich roasted malt, umami, salter liquorice, bitter dark chocolate, touch of coffee and jammy dark fruits. The taste is dry roasted malt upfront, toasty, pleasing bitter - sweet character, umami, chewy liquorice, dark chocolate, cacao nibs, some dark and dried fruits, stewed plum, malt loaf and some cracked black pepper with surprisingly smooth roasted finish. Fulsome body and moderate, massaging carbonation. Super rounded and flavourful. Impressive stuff. Moreish.

Can from Appellation Wines. Appearance - deep brown to black and opaque. Tan head. Nose - molasses, light liquorice and an edge if smoke. Undernote of brown or rye bread. Taste - molasses, smoke and a nuance of something citrus. Palate - light body and a cream middle with a light roasty finish. Overall - good.
