Nomi Hodaï is a collab made with our beloved friends of Oxbow Brewing Company from Maine (USA). The main strengths of this excellent brewery are their farmhouse ales and thirst-quenching beers. The Nomi Hodaï is for sure one of the latter. What makes her exceptional, is that she not only contains barley malt, but also rice – a first for our brewery. Luckily we could count on the expertise of Oxbow in the use of this ingredient. She turned out to be a blond beer of 4.5% alcohol, with a discretely present bitterness. The rice brings a certain lightness to the beer and has a dry finale, which makes her all the more drinkable. She has been dry-hopped with a mix of old and new varieties, that have the characteristics of noble hops. These hops bring refreshing floral and herbal touches, combined with a fruitiness that reminds us of strawberries and peach. What more could you ask for to kick off the summer?
The name Nomi Hodaï is an expression that can be heard in certain Japanese bars, that have an “all-you-can-drink”-formula for a fixed fee. The reference to this country - with a culture that is highly loved by both breweries (Tim from Oxbow even lived here for a while) - points out again how incredibly drinkable this thirst-quenching beer is. But be aware, even the Nomi Hodaï should be drunk in moderation.

Bottle @ Belgium. Pours hazy yellow with a small White head. Rustic and crisp nose and flavor. Mild citrus, grass and straw. Notes of honey dew and White bread. Dry crisp finish. Excellent.

Bottle. Malt Attacks, Brussels. Was nice to get back here and see Antoine first time in ages. Anyhoo. More or less out the suitcase this is well hazed straw gold. Noisy thick white foam. Nose has a distinct lager vibe presumably from the rice in the malt bill? On top there’s clean malt. Bit of a fruity farmhouse vibe. Some fusty lemon. Light brett notes. Taste has a soft lemony sweetness. Gets quite dry. Moderate bitterness. Clean on the palate with moussy carbonation. Dry-ish lightly funky finish. Out of the ordinary and very enjoyable.

At BXL. Hazy yellow golden. Soft malts, very dry with a lot of dank fresh hops, spruce, lime zest and mint. Great hops and it is nice, but yeah it’s quite dry too.

Draft sample @ Swafff! 2022 - shared with the Gentse Biervereniging team.
