pours dark brown, thick mahogany/mocha head. aroma, piney hops, good spicy nose with hints of chocolate. flavor, hoppy, barley palate giving it a celery like touch, caramel, light peppery mouthfeel, sweet chocolate with a nice spicy finish. Light bitter chocolate finish, some coffee, toffee like caramel finish. Never thought this was only clocking at 5.6%.

bottle, labelled best before jul 2006 probably by the danish importer. tasted oct 2009, to me, seems to be still fresh and totally unspoiled by age. Impressive!. dark brown, smooth small light brown head, nice lacing. chocolate, brown sugar most prominent in aroma. good quality chocolate aroma,mild aroma, very faint hoppy note to it. flavor is mild, roasted grains, licorice, expensive dark chocolate, faint flowery or fruity or perhaps honey note, a mild sweetness vs roast battle. ends more roasted.

Tap. Pours black with a brown head. Aroma is quite malty with an underlying chocolate aroma. Flavor is again malty with nice underlying flavors.

Pours black with tan head. Burnt malt aroma. Roasted malt flavor with hints of coffee and chocolate and a bitter finish. Medium to full body with moderate carbonation. Decent.

Bottle. Frothy, light brown head that recedes quickly. Dark brown body. Aroma is malty with roasted malts, bitter coffee and grain with a hint of pine.The flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic and lightly bitter, but in the dry finish, the bitterness goes up a notch. Medium body. Watery texture. Lively carbonation. Weak aroma. The most noticable flavor is the bitterness — not chocolate or coffee or roasted malt. Disappointing.

Pours black into a shaker. Head quickly recedes leaving no lacing. Chocolate and sour pit fruit aromas. Tingly with upfront espresso and a lasting bitter chocolate finish.

Med brown color. Dark chocolate, cherries, oranges and fudge in the nose. Light mouth of fudge and caramel. Somewhat caramelly, moderately bitter finish.

12oz bottle. Deep black-red color. Toffee and chocolate aroma. Initial dry mouthfeel leads to a smooth, smoky, malt finish. Hops are more present than in your typical Stout, giving it a pleasant balance. Lots of roasted malt in the finish. A nice Stout.

Bottle. Not much aroma here, though I let it warm. Poured deep black with a thick tan head. Full flavour of coffee, toast and malt. Lingering coffee and malt finish. Another good one from North Coast.
