Backlog August 2011. Unclear golden body under a big, stable, creamy off-white head. Nice, fresh citric fruity aroma, some caramel malt and slightly floral. Taste is fresh and fruity as well with malt, bread and decent bitterness. Medium body and pleasant aftertaste.

22 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled in 8/2011. Pours slightly hazy deep golden/orange/amber/light copper color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy cream colored head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lasts. Nice dense spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big orange, red grapefruit, lemon, golden raisin, peach, plum, pear, apricot, red apple, wood, cedar, mint, peppercorn, pine, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread dough/crust, toasted biscuit, light toffee/roast/nutty, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/bready/light roasted malts, fruity yeast, and earthy hop notes; with big strength. Taste of big orange, red grapefruit, lemon, golden raisin, peach, plum, pear, apricot, red apple, wood, cedar, mint, peppercorn, pine, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread dough/crust, toasted biscuit, light toffee/roast/nutty, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate pine, herbal, floral, woody, minty, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of orange, red grapefruit, lemon, golden raisin, peach, plum, pear, apricot, red apple, wood, cedar, mint, peppercorn, pine, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread dough/crust, toasted biscuit, light toffee/roast/nutty, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roasted malts, fruity yeast, and earthy hop flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance; and no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, fairly sticky, and lightly resinous mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 6.5%. Overall this is an excellent ESB. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roasted malts, fruity yeast, and earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mellowly bitter/drying finish; great soft feel and not aggressive. Great balance of nicely rich dark/bready English malts, fruity English yeast, and earthy English hop flavors. Light residual sweetness with lingering dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and impressive well made style example as expected. A lot more dark malt/melanoidin qualities from the age; but held up extremely well for the style/ABV. No complaints.

It's really good, I guess, but from an American perspective. Great body, good hopping, and appearance. But I like the British better with fuggles hops and lower carbonation.

0.65l bottle shared with The Tasting Crew. Only my cat like reflexes saved this from fountain ingen over the table. No gusher, but wants out and it has a massive really good looking near fluffy everlasting off-white head. All this on top of a cloudy deep orangey warm body. Looks nice and smells really nice as well. Lots of malty and fruity nuances. Hard to describe this aroma. It's almost yeast nutty with a rush of red berries and sweet melon. Yeah, wish every enn could smell like this. This is tasty. Super car smelly and somewhat sweet all this without being too much. It's spot on the carbonation and it has a fantastic feeling in the mouth as well. Lots of ripe fruity touches with minerally rocks and earth. There is lots of wet rocks and even a little bit of spicy licorice here. So much flavor! My expectations were quite low before popping the cap on this, but wow. This is one amazing esb. 23.10.2013

Deep, super hazy brown and toffee coloured body with a great, three centimetre tall light brown head that looks nice and tops the beer even better. Aroma of toasted malt, toffee, earth, grain, rye, german/english hops and a bit of alcohol - rather pungent in the nose. Medium-bodied; Very earthy and toffee-y flavours up front with a lot of toasted malt, grain, rye and english hops with some sugars and a lot of alcohol noticeable. Aftertaste shows the grain and earth more than anything else, but the lighter alpha acid hops show through along with the earthy sugars and a touch of fruit. Overall, a decent ESB with some good qualities, but nothing too impressive or out of the ordinary. Definitely not a must-have beer or worth spending a lot on - but nice to finally sample. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from King Richard’s Wine & Liqour in Michigan City, Indiana on 09-September-2015 for US$8,99 sampled at home in Washington on 30-August-2016.

Tap at Dexters. Filtered caramel amber-brown body. Off-white pillowy head. Nice tropical hop notes over classic British ESB caramel amber notes. Pretty good, medium bodied, not so much malt depth. Kind of bright and awkward for the style. OK.

Bottle shared at a tasting. Dark orange pour, hazy, thin tan head. Smells like malt sugars and burnt caramel. The taste is bitter-sweet, with notes of malt sugars, citrus hops, some pine.

Enjoyed on tap at Emporium Arcade Bar in Chicago, IL on a day off, too bad it's cold and grey. Appearance is a moderately clear Amber with a modest white head that laces to the glass. Aroma has a hop abundant profile with light malty notes. Taste is unique, definitely bitter with a bit of lemon, some off flavor that isn't quite agreeing with me, but malty as well. It's ok, not especially feeling this one.
