A rich hue of dark amber with warm caramel aromas. Full body, toasty, light chocolate with hints of raisin, nutmeg, and dried fruit. The ideal winter warmer best served in a snifter. Ages extremely well.

Mad River John Barleycorn Barleywine 10.8% A good value high ABV brew is this one imported by Ezo Beer. Pouring a deep brown with ruby accents. Sweet zesty citrus aroma coupled with sweet caramel. Full bodied and malty sweet with a lightly roasty caramel that’s nicely balanced by a dose of citrusy hops. A barleywine for those who enjoy hops makes it a solid winter warmer.

barley wine bottle share on 1/31. Malty, sweet aroma... fruity and floral. Malty, alcoholic and sweet up front. Nicely balanced, yet moderately bitter on the tail end with plenty of alcohol. Full-bodied with an oily mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Long, astringent, bitter-sweet, slightly dry finish.

2013 bottle. Very dark brown with a fat coat of beige head that disappears after a while. A: Spiced rummy fruitcake aroma with orange peel. Oily, lowish carbonation. Rich toffee and dried fruit, fruitcake spices, citrus peel. Some Oloroso notes, but nothing really cardboardish. Bitterness stands out a bit much at the end. Not bad. Suspect there will be a brief window in the next year when it will be pretty good. [3.4]Another try and it’s pretty charming. Robust and tasty rather than deep and refined. Dark fruits and toffee, enough bitterness to keep it from being oversweet. I like that it’s a beer and not a cocktail.

Bottle at home, from an IP trade with jtclockwork, cheers James 11/05/14. Clear dark amber with a moderate light beige covering that dissipates then retains. Nose is treacle toffee, brown sugars, candied fruit peel, light spice, fruit cake, brown sugars. Taste comprises toffee fudge, fruit cake, dates, figs, tobacco, light spice. Full bodied, fine carbonation, boozey tones in a drying close. Solid enough barley wine, this one improved as it warmed a little bringing the flavours out a little more.

Draft - Brown sugar, raisin and oaky notes. Cloudy maroon with a thin head. Oaky, brown sugar, raisin and some light bitter boozy sweetness. An absurdly cheap and good Barleywine.

Poured from s bottle it is a dark brown with a flight head. The atoms is of dried sweet fruit and dome boozey overtones. The taste is sweet boozey flavor that lingers bitter on the palate
