Een frisse en licht bittere pale ale. Amerikaanse hoppen zorgen voor citrusaroma's die goed in balans zijn met de Engelse mout.

Copper colour with light haze and lasting, tight head. Really nice balance. Full and malty with quite a rich mouthfeel for the style. Also depth of bitterness. Floral and dry with side notes of caramelised yellow stoned fruit. Long, dry, bitter aftertaste with a hint of lime zest.

Little cloudy light brown beer, small creamy off-white head, a little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: very malty, grains, hay, sugary impression, caramel, oxidized, meh. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bitter start, dry, weird, very oxidized, malty, caramel, meh. Aftertaste: dry, very bitter, grassy touch, ripe banana, lots of caramel, a bit chemical, very bitter, ok!

The latest Laatste Drinker to date, a one-man brewing company located very close to where I live in Ghent. At Buurtkroeg Moscow. Egg-white, thick and large-bubbled but stable, cobweb-lacing, firm head on a misty deep caramelly and dark-peachy amber brown beer, in between blonde and brown as it were so in any case darker than usual for a pale ale of any subtype. Aroma of soggy rusk, crackers, hard caramel, dried orange pith, walnut shells, moist nutmeg, grapefruit zest, white pepper, autumn leaves, old tea bags, bergamot, peanut. Estery onset in a dryish way, hinting at dried apricot, apple peel and dried fig, medium carbonated, full-bodied (especially for this style); grapefruity hop bitterness is noticeable early on. Hard-caramelly, peanutty to even somewhat walnutty, wet-toasty maltiness, clearly maltier than average for the style, almost Altbier-like, consistently bittered by a leafy, herbal, earthy, 'wet' and 'dark green' hoppiness adding dried grapefruit peel, dry tree leaf, tea and black peppercorn notes. Ends with a lingering yeasty breadiness, some spicy phenols (nutmeg) and ongoing leafy hoppiness. Very malty, yeasty and bready, in other words: very Belgian interpretation of an APA, in fact much closer to what is commonly known as 'Belgian IPA' these days; but I love this kind of beers if they are technically correctly executed and I sincerely enjoyed this one a lot, even if it may deliver something altogether different from what the geeks expect when they order an American style pale ale. Think 'quirky Belgian pale ale' and you will be fine with this one. Cheers Jerôme!
