Black Betty is a dark beer made with wormwood just like absinthe! As well as a few other herbs. It pours a dark mahonganey brown that is almost black in the glass with amber highlights. The aroma is rich malty caramel, nice but kind of boring as I was expecting more of a herb/spice character from the wormwood. Medium to light bodied with a pretty interesting flavor - you get that caramel from the malts but then an interesting aniseed/licorice herbal character to it with a dose of cocoa. Overall an intriguing twist on a fairly run-of-the-mill brown porter type beer. Worth a shot.

Look: clear dark ruby, small beige frothy head.
Aroma: string malts, sugary, light medicinal herbal notes.
Taste: also malty, not as sweet as the aroma, light medicinal herbal spice, minuscule bitterness.

Bottle shared at a tasting at kerenmk’s place. Thanks mom & dad for this bottle! Deep amber color with a beige head. Aroma of malt, caramel, toast and a herbal note. Sweetish malty flavor with caramel, some toast, a bit of dark bread and a mild herbal finish. Medium-bodied. Kinda Dunkel-like.

Trübes braunes Bier mit ordentlicher Schaumkrone. Geruch malzig, fruchtig, Gewürze, so ist auch der Geschmack.

Bottled, 0.33l. Murky dark brown color with small frothy, fully diminishing light brown head. Aroma of caramel, grassy hops, herbs, licorice and dried fruits. Taste starts with moderate sweet caramel malt, while following is by light herbal and grassy acidity. Mouthfeel is very warming with vermouth and jägermeister-like note, while finish is moderately bitter. Medium body, oily texture and average carbonation in palate. Interesting herbal flavoured dessert beer...
