Potus non frangit ieiunium. – “Drinking is not breaking the fast”. Stout or strong beer owes its origin to this old catholic rule for Lent. In former times monks and lords of the castle brewed a powerful bock beer to strengthen themselves for the 40 days of fasting leading up to Easter solemnities. In Bavaria, an extra-strength bock beer is immediately recognizable by the suffix ending in “ator”.

Big thank you to kappldav123 for this 0,5 l bottle. BB 11.08.2025. A darkest red brown in the glass, one finger pale beige head. Looks good. Malty roasty aroma, some choco and lactose, dried fruits. Taste is also intensive malty, roasty, some pale choco, nuts, some bitterhop and caramel. Long lasting aftertaste with wood elements. A really nice one.

Bottle from House Of Trembling Madness. Dark brown body with a thin beige head. Low carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of roasted malt and toffee. Flavour of liquorice and malt loaf. Medium body with a smooth mouthfeel. Soft fizz. Rich and well balanced.

Bottle. Interesting story here. I got this one on a vacation three years ago to Virginia or somewhere that direction. My phone had died so I threw the label in my suitcase to rate later. Well, I forgot about it. So, I got my suitcase out to go on a trip and there it was. I believe it was dark and tasted like a good German doppelbock. That's all. TNT

Bottle picked up from Appel Getränkemarkt, Moosburg and consumed at home Tuesday 16th March 2021, listening to Huw Stephens sitting in for Marc Riley on 6Music, we had Tray bake Chicken with Broccoli and Shallots, a little spice and a herby Yoghurt dip, we're also watching it snow yayyyyyyy. Chestnut in colour with an off white head. Wow this is a great Doppelbock and instantly reminded me of Ayinger Celebrator. Sweet in the mouth, fruity with molasses and malt (these last two were also present on the nose)a little chocolate, soft, really smooth a little nutty. Really good Doppelbock.
