Cask at Red Lion, Cromer, Norfolk. A dark brown coloured pour with a small white head on top. Malty, roasty aroma. Tastes malty, dark fruit. An OK old ale but nothing special in my opinion.

Bottle. Sweet chocolate malt and light hay aroma. Dark brown color with no head. Sweet smoky chocolate malt and moderately bitter herbal hops. Body a bit light. An easy drinking Old Ale - unusual but nice.

Dark brown. Light molasses and toffee aroma. Chewy, soft, with toffee and date character. A decent pint.

3rd November 2008. Clear very dark brown beer. Pleasant and complex mix of nuts and fruit. Some hops coming through in the finish. Low carbonation. A bitter semi dry finish doesn’t detract too much from a tasty beer.

Dark brown color, no head. Light caramel aroma; cheesy. It has a good flavor, some caramel and chocolate, well balanced, in a lean body, with butter and nuts, creamy cookies, mmmh...; correct bitterness. Subtle and very pleasant!

An old ale with a rusty-dark body topped by a filmy brownish layer. Weak smell of dark malts. Mild taste of chocolate added by a bite of liquorice. Velvet in the mouth [Third pint glass at Wetherspoons real ale festival, Standing Order in Edinburgh, 13.11.2008].

50 cL bottle, courtesy of fonefan. Pours dark brown with an orange glare and clear. Fully gone head. Mild chocolate and slight roasted malty. Pleasant aroma. Flavour is mild acidic and floral to spiced yet with a nice underlying malty and chocolate like base. Ends mild spiced and slight bitter.7-3-7-3-13=3.3 From cask at Edward Wylie. Pours dark brown with a minimal amber glare and a dense tan head. Roasted malty aroma with a mild caramel to chocolate note. Light bitterness arising out of a light acidic roasted malty flavour with a mild caramel sweetness. Holds a touch of liqourice too. Light roasted and malty finish. Smooth.6-3-7-3-13=3.2
