This limited version of Necessary Evil had aged in Rum barrels for 8 months. The distinctive notes of toasted sugar balance with the rich oak to accentuate this bold flavoured brew.

Bottle. Beer Central Sheffield. Pours clear dark brown. Sits not far off black. No head to speak of. Nose has burnt sugar. Rum soaked oak. Lots of vine fruit. Taste is sweet and vinous. Some oak led bitterness. Slick and slightly boozy. Fine carbonation. Fairly rich finish. Good stuff.

Bottle picked up from Thornbridge brewery website and consumed at Scott and Mandy's, Dumbleton Worcestershire/Gloucestershire border, Sunday 22nd May 2022 after a trip to Deya and cooking a Chicken Chasni, Onion Bhajis and Chapattis. Pours black, with a mid sized light beige head, but much like the cognac version the previous evening this head was soon away. Some coffee, cocoa and leather. Bitter dark chocolate in the mouth, sweet coffee and dark sticky fruits. I like the fact that the Rum BA is subtle, particularly as this is my least favourite barrel when variants are done. Very nice, impressed that the abv is so well hidden.

330ml bottle from Thornbridge Beer Club - Almost opaque black body, lush lasting tan topper. Nose has sweeter overtones to the usual coffee, dark chocolate and liquorice that comes with the original TNE. Also vanilla on the aroma which is strong on the taste, lots of sugar, too easy to drink. An excellent one to mark my 300th Thornbridge Beer, only taken the 10 years.
