28 May 2023. At Brouwbar, Ghent. Cheers to Anke, Maarten, Elise; and of course Benjamin & Jolien!
Hazy amber, small, foamy, off-white head. Aroma of mango, orange peel, pear, biscuit, apricot, honey, white pepper, shallot. Taste has sweetish mango & plum over a biscuity malt base; some spicy, dank shallot next to bitter citrus peel. Floral & slightly piney hoppy finish, softly bitter grapefruit lingering as well as stone fruit pit. Medium body, oily texture, average carbonation. Somewhat more juicy classic IPA; simply flawless.

Brouwbar's interpretation of West Coast IPA, tasted there from tap at different occasions. Egg-white, stable, moussy and somewhat 'bubbly' head on a hazy orange blonde beer with deep peachy tinge. Aroma of fresh wormwood leaf, grapefruit zest, orange pith, crackers, cheese rind, unripe apricot, pink peppercorns, bread crust. Clean onset, some unripe peach and green pear fruitiness, low in sweetness but still some; minerally carbonation, rounded and smooth body. Soggy cracker- and bread crust-like maltiness gradually bittered by a leafy, grapefruity, peppery hop bitterness, making for a long, dry finish; retronasal wormwood, grapefruit zest and tonic water elements appear, but in a somewhat restrained way. Dry and notably more bitter than most other Brouwbar IPAs so the intention to create a West Coast one is certainly there, but it still falls under a hybrid 'hazy West Coast IPA' category (a kind of 'new' West Coast IPA you see pop up everywhere in recent years) rather than the original, 'historical', true West Coast IPA tradition; West Coast IPA the Brouwbar way, with accessibility, gentleness and elegance upfront, is probably the best way to describe it. In any respect, though, this is a tasty and well-brewed IPA for sure, one I may repeat (again) next time I am at Brouwbar.

13/VIII/22 - on tap, shared @ Brouwbar (Gent), BB: n/a (2022-990)
Pretty cloudy orange blond beer, nice creamy dense off-white head, stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: lovely, super fruity, tropical fruits, lychee, citrus notes, orange peel, some sweet caramel malts in the back. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: wow, lovely, super fruity start, tropical fruits, juicy, some mango, gentle bitterness, more mango, a bit malty and somewhat sweet. Aftertaste: more grassy, dry, a bit resinous, tropical fruits, juicy, good bitterness, hoppy, touch of malt, still lots of mango.
