(Bottle 75 cl) Pilsener golden and presumably filtered - unusual for Fantome. Rocky, shaving foam-like head. Splendidly fresh almost citrusy nose. Starts perfumy and tempting with a dryness like what you find in gin, but then you’re hit by an almost paralyzing bitterness. Way too much for my liking. 170202

Hazy murky brown with small creamy tanned head. Aroma is earthy: barnyard, hay, cardboard, hops, spices and herbs. Medium-bodied with earthy, spicey flavor. Dry slightly spicey aftertaste. Refreshing, easy to drink, maybe not so complex than many other Fantomes, but you can notice Fantome’s fingerprints here.

Brown, muddy colour. Rich head. Spicy, yeasty citrus aroma. Dry, bitter, spicy (allspice?, cardamom?) flavour. Reminds me of Fantôme Chocolat.

Good brownish head; slowly receding but remaining at +/- 1 cm; fully hazy amber-brown beer. Leafy; earthy, spicey, there’s a sweet aroma somewhere, defying identification. Rather sweet beer with a very spicey surrounding. Bit toasted, a bit of chocolate, malty, bitterish, piney, cypress, apples, slightly smokey, and a bit sourish - Brett?, peppery. Bit burning sensation (not alcohol). Well bodied, not heavy. This beer defies the word "balance". It’s so full of everything that NOTHING is recognisable. I could drink this ad infinitum - or until the 8% alc’ gets me. A masterpiece, Dany.

Bottle at the Belgian Beer Fest. Nutty. It was lightly sweet with a lower than usual yeast presence for a Fantome. Had a soft caramel meets walnuts and almonds sort of thing going on mixed with spices. It poured a dull brown with some light coppers and a touch of auburn perhaps. Little to no head. Flavor is pretty simple, light yeast, light choco/caramel malts with plenty of nuttiness and some toffee. Low bitterness though. Good medium body, low carbonation, chewy. What do you get if you cross a saison with wheat bread fried in butter and tossed in cinnamon and sugar? Something like this.

[Vintage 2000 - sampled January 2004 - read 7.2% ABV on the label] The beer was very lively when uncorked. The aroma is very spicy - but I'm not able to tell the spices. The color is orange and it has a huge white head though collapsing. The flavor is fruity with loads of spicys; banana, peach, cloves, lemon, corriander, and many more. The end is lemony but still somewhat dry. An interesting beer, but more special, than one I'll go back for. But I'm happy to have sampled it.

Dark brown with a touch of red - off-white head of large bubbles - high carbonation - musty aroma, with a mixture of dark fruit and earthiness - the flavor is hard ot explain - it's kind of like a brown ale mixed with a Saison - the dominant flavors are chocolate and nuts, with a hint of sourness and spice - light in body, but not thin - nutty finish - slight acidity - interesting - not something one expects when drinking a Saison, but a pleasant surprise none-the-less.

Cloudy brown with smallhead. Tart aroma, almost of sour cherries but not quite. Tart flavor, very dry, with a light almost bitter-chocolate background. Not very complex but well balanced for a strong ale. Not as nice as the summer beer.

has an impressive presentation with its tan colour, mountainous head and swirling carbonation. The aroma is very yeasty, with peppery notes. The carbonation, though impressively swift, is soft on the tongue; and the palate is sweeter than the nose would let on. The sweet malt flavours incorporate lightly fruity herbal notes, drying out with increasing yeastiness in the finish. Despite weighing in at a lofty (for the style) 8%, this drinks like a session beer, and is well suited to a blustery late autumn evening.

Golden color; giant head, nice perlage. Pleasant aroma of malt and wood; getting fruiter when warmer. Rich body, immediately aggressive with a strong bitterness, turning to be a bit fruiter at the end (apricots; Morello cherries). A lot of old hops in the final.
