The same sessionable, light and refreshing New Zealand pale ale you know and love – but turned up to 11!

We’ve taken our regular Deception recipe, then double dry-hopped it with Nelson Sauvin for flavours of white grape, gooseberry and elderflower in absolute abundance, and a boosted citrus character. Finishes with a fruity flourish and a tasty, crisp bitterness.

All the white wine, gooseberry flavours I love in Nelson. Cracking!

440ml can from Craft & Berry. Gluten Free. Hazed gold colour, bubbly white foam head and aroma of oats & floral fruity woody hops. Taste is sweetish, malt, grain, oat biscuit, fruity, with zesty citrus and resinous hop bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, drying hoppy bitter finish. Quite drinkable.

Hazy blond colour with lasting head. For a Nelson Sauvin hop it's rather skunky and resinous. Misses some of the lighter notes.

Can. Mitchell’s Wines Sheffield. Haze straw gold. Fine dense blotchy white foam. Nose has big tangy Nelson. Smells very fresh and hop laden. Bit of a milky oat thing detract somewhat. Taste is dry, chalky and excessively bitter. Light body. Mouth stripping dryness. Fine foamy carbonation. Bitterness on the finish is a little harsh. Thought this was going to be decent at first. --- Beer merged from original tick of Deception - Dry Hopped on 22 Jul 2025 at 17:40 - Score: Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 7.5 | Flavor - 7.5 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 7.5. Original review text: Can. Mitchell’s Wines. Hazed straw gold. Good thin dense white foam. Nice NZ twanginess here. Bright and light. Clean malt backdrop. Similarly clean on the palate. Light shiny bitter finish. Solid.
