The first and only one. In 1901, Maxim Ale was first introduced to the North East. Following an increase in strength in 1938, it became known as Double Maxim. This premium quality ale is still famous among discerning drinkers for its well-rounded flavour.

Bottle at home. A good pour with a rich mahogany colour. The taste was that of a rich brown ale and was perfectly pleasant.

31/5/2018. Cask at The Fire Station, Whitley Bay. Pours pale chestnut brown with a small off-white to beige head. Aroma of malt, biscuit, nut, fruit, toffee, and a hint of chocolate. Medium plus sweetness, light to moderate bitterness. Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Quite enjoyable.

Cask probably in a Spoons in Manchester in 2012. Bland darker ale with a glow. Has some sweetness in its aroma and taste.

Bottle, gift from Dad- cheers! Brown with a thin white head. Brown sugar and nutty malt flavours are rather destroyed by a heavy dose of cardboard. Poor.

Bottle at home. Bought at Morrisons, Aldershot. Sweet malty aroma. Dark brown/chestnut. Blotchy off-white head. The thing that first srikes me about this is the wave of carbonation that rolls over the tongue. Otherwise the body is quite watery. Sweet, with a bitter finish. Nothing special. Too fizzy.
