This smooth blonde beer is very light in colour and uses cascade and first gold hops to give refreshing hoppy and complex grapefruit flavours on the palate

On cask at the Library in Durham. Appearance - golden with a very slight hop haze and a nice head. Nose - lemon and malt. Taste - more lemon barley water. Some herbs on the finish. Palate - light to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - decent example of the style.

24th Apr 14, been cutting the lawns, need a refreshing pint: this should do the job. 500ml Bottle: BBD 28th Oct 14, poured into a vase shaped pint glass. Almost lager like in appearance, although the snowy white head was thicker and stayed. Mild citrus in the aroma which became full on in the taste, grapefruit and lemon feel to both the smell and flavours. Refreshing enough, but I’m fed up with golden brews that have a citrus bent and this is smack in the middle of that style. I’ve scored it kindly because it is well made and although it’s not for me I know many others love these type of brew.

Bottle from Sainsburys, Watford. Poured a very light, hazy golden colour with a scummy white head. Aroma was very sweet and slightly synthetic with notes of banoffee pie, marshmallow and vanilla. Fruit Salad sweets on the initial taste with cornbread and a light peppery hop character. Finish was light with some grass, soft fruit and brown sugar. Fairly boring.

Bottle at home from Sainsbury’s. Pours a slightly deep yellow, a bit of head, fair bit of lacing and quite a lot of carbonation. Faint but pleasant aroma of lemon washing-up liquid and Cascade hops.Taste is bitter, weak, and somewhat soapy. Better when chugged with abandon rather than sipped. Not a great golden ale, and certainly not the best Maxim ale.

500ml bottle from Sainsbury - Didn’t mind this, a foggy yellow body, foamy white head. Nose was a muted grapefruit, and the smell you get when you open a bag of wine gums. The taste was helped along by a medium palate, with a creamy texture, leaving a bitter-sweet fruit ending.

The light citrusy aroma and taste are the only pleasant elements of this one. It has a very rough, agressive carbonation and a rough unrefined bitterness with a metallic edge to the flavour.

Bottle from Sainsburys 2013 great british Beer hunt. Clear golden colour with a thin persistent head. Aroma is light caramelsome fruity midget gem hops. Flavour is semi sweet caramel. Hops are a light touch. Light hedgerow bitterness. Palate is medium body and fnishes dry. slight chalk in the mouthfeel. Decent stuff, maybe a bit much caramel.
