Rye Wine.

Tom is the second oldest brother and works a few streets away from the brewery at Zomerdijk Engineering. As you may know by now, we’re not only brewers but also build machines that breweries need. 🔧 Tom is chief of Zomerdijk Engineering.

It's not often, but sometimes Tom carries a whisky bottle around, taking little sips during our vrijmibo's. We caught him once sipping on a fancy american rye whisky.

That conversation led us to beer - it does, always, end up in beer - and rye wine. We've never brewed this style before, so this homage to Tom was the best excuse we could find.

7th November 2022 Can. Near opaque reddish dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Smooth and slightly soft palate, decent fine carbonation. Smooth malts, smooth and rich. Some creamy sweetness and a nice soft caramel. Mellow rye spice and soft rich ripe fruits with a wonderful light creamy nuttyness. A trace of esters and good pinch of alcohol spice before a smooth and slightly warning finish. A fine barleywine, plenty going on and smoothly drinkable.

Clearly lots of rye in a heavy beer, must be a rye wine! Boozy, strong, firm body, yet also pretty easy drinkable. Not as sharp as some other rye heavy beers. Herbal, but with lots of caramelly stuff. Some dried fruit. Quite enjoyable, for a rye.

23/IX/22 - on tap @ Borefts Day 1, BB: n/a (2022-1241) Thanks to all for sharing today’s beers!

Clear dark brown to black beer, small creamy beige head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: malty start, grains, a good roast, alcohol, more malts. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: sweet start, very malty, chocolate, more roast, lots of alcohol, malty, sugary. Aftertaste: still a lot of alcohol, very sugary, burns a little in the throat, not a big fan.
