750ml bottle shared at the ‘t Parlement Halle with Travis.
Minerally, funky, horse blanket, some fruity character. Quite bitter with some citrusy notes like a grapefruit. Intense and interesting one.

Bottle. Color: Clear.golden, white head. Aroma: Tartness, fruity gooseberry and citrus, oak wood. Taste: Smooth, still some sweetness, combined with light to moderate tartness and light old hop bitterness. Fruity apple, some grapefruit (zest), hints of lemon. Bit moldy. Subtle leathery funk, oak and tannins. Hints of hay. Medium body, below average carbonation. Very likeable.

Exactly a year before writing this review, a pub called ‘t Parlement in Halle celebrated its tenth anniversary and had a traditional geuze blended by nearby Boon especially for the occasion. The result is explicitly referred to as a ‘Mariage Parfait’ but comes specifically from the ‘foeders’ numbered 26, 32, 77, 103 and 124; due to the different proportions of lambic, I think it is justified to grant this one its own separate entry rather than alias it to the actual Mariage Parfait – it does not even taste quite the same anyway, but this will always be a difficult issue with lambic blends, I suppose. Anyway: 75 cl bottle with cork and muselet from Dranken De Moor, one of only 3000 made. Egg-white, medium thick, opening, relatively large-bubbled but well-retaining head on an initially clear, warm pale orange-tinged ‘old golden’ robe with steady, disparate sparkling, turning misty and eventually ‘clouded’ with protein flakes further on. Aroma of old dry wood, raw rhubarb, Granny Smith apple, dried old grapefruit peel, rusk, unripe pear, cracked leather, old and oxidized ‘brut’ champagne, hints of green olive, pecorino rind and vague chlorine (typically Boon). Spritzy onset, lots of green apple, sorrel and hard nectarine with a lemony edge but still remaining relatively ‘mals’; pungent, active effervescence does accentuate the sourness, though. This champenoise effect continues through a bread-crusty, cereally but full core, with a lovely fruity lactic tart stream underneath, drying but still keeping things lively and juicy. Green fruit persists when light umami notes come in (bitter green olive), followed by tannic woodiness, some leathery Brettanomyces (horse saddle) and a mild, deep and brief old hop bitter note; remains juicy and green-fruity, while this minor element of green olive also lingers in the very end. Seems more crisp, juicy and vividly green-fruity than the regular Mariage Parfait, so a different blend indeed. Delicious on a warm and sunny spring afternoon.
