No Midwestern potluck would be complete without a tray or two of 7 Layer Bars. Also known as "Magic Bars", these tasty treats are known for one thing: Packing a massive amount of flavor and sugar into a very small package. That's exactly what we did with this beer. Try to pace yourself.

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is caramel, toffee, bourbon, fudge, chocolate, some vanilla, touch of oak, soy sauce. No coconut, unfortunately. Rather sweet flavour, light bitter. Boozy bourbon finish. Sweet with lots of caramel & toffee, bourbon, okay but not really my aromatic profile.

12 ounce bottle, 10/14/23. Black, thin fizzy head, poor retention. Aroma of chocolate, graham cracker, raisin, vanilla, coconut, roast. Taste is vanilla, coconut, lactose, maple, raisin, chocolate, whiskey, mild roast. Slick, mild booze. Too sweet. Okay.

Bottle. Black. Coconut, bourbon, ash, deep roasted notes with massive caramel and butterscotch. Toffee. Solid sweet, medium bodied. Very aromatic and fudgy. It seems this is named after a candy bar, and yes, it does taste like a liquid candy bar. Hmmmm.

On tap at Uno Chicago Grill in Hamilton, NJ. Nearly opaque brown color. Brief tan head. Aroma of milk chocolate, graham cracker and coconut. Flavor mirrors nose. Sweet roasted malt, chocolate, coconut, graham cracker and vanilla. Some oakiness and warming alcohol in middle. Rich and indulgent. Delivers as advertised. Yum!

The aromas are an odd combination of licorice, roast, dark malt, molasses. The flavors are somewhat similar to nose, a little better but still with significant molasses and I pick up no coconut. Very fizzy short-lived head and so so body. They've made better beer.
