En kald novemberdag i 2021 dro Bygland Bryggeri ned til NUA Brygghus i Mandal for å brygge noe godt sammen. Det måtte bli en byggvin - et tradisjonsrikt engelsk sterkøl. Så har ølet fått modne i 12 måneder på bourbonfat, som det også har vært whisky på. Dette bidrar sammen med en spennende maltblanding og norsk kveik-gjær til et komplekst, smaksrikt øl med toner av mørke frukter, eik, karamell, vanilje og toffee. Et øl med mye smak som serveres rundt 12 grader og nytes foran peisilden.

Bottle. Slightly unclear amber body under a small beige head. Aroma has dry fruit, prunes, ripe yellow plum, some acidity and sweet whisky. Taste has sweet malt, harsh fruit, ripe fruit, wood and slightly spicy. Medium body and same aftertaste. Not very successful.

500 ml bottle, batch #81, from Vinmonopolet Egersund. Gluten free. ABV is 9%. Very dark brown to black colour, hardly any head. Aroma of caramel, molasses, brown kandij sugar syrup, brittle and malts. Very moderate carbonation. The flavour has the same elements as the aroma, only a hint of whisky, but also an unexpected sharpish bitterness. Won't buy again.

Kumlefjorden Juleølsmaking 2022. Red brown color with a beige head. Aroma is caramel, asparges, spices. Flavor is caramel, sugar, pine, cellar, spices, alcohol, asparges, bourbon, toffee.

Bottle. Don’t think I’ve seen a bottle filled this much, it actually was so full it spilt when opening. It pours a minimalistic off-white head over a clear brown body. The aroma has a distinct sweetish touch, with children puke, green asparagus, toffee, cellar, spiced hints and some dark dried fruit. Well hidden alcohol. It’s full-bodied, warming and very softly carbonated, with a flavor profile matching the aroma. Lasting finish. An awful one indeed. There’s some nice things in the back, but they are overpowered by all the off-flavors. 221126

Mørkebrun. Uklar. Skumring med litt farge. Aroma av eik, nøtter & whisky. Smaken som aromaen. Innslag av tørket frukt. Alkoholen skinner gjennom - og dominerer i en tørr avslutning.
