気まぐれシリーズは毎回レシピが異なり、同じ”冬の気まぐれ”でも同じ内容のビールを造ったことはありません。季節によってテーマを決めていて、これまでの2年間は柑橘香と甘みを生むホップを使ったホワイトIPAを冬に造ってきました。今年も小麦を使いながらも、より樹脂のようなパンチのあるホップに焦点をあて、これまで以上に苦みとシャープさを意識したビールになりました。
トロピカルな個性を持つStrataホップ、そこにIdaho7とMosaicといった樹脂や刺激的なフレーバーや香りのホップをブレンドしました。これらとどっさりと投入した小麦がうまく働きあい、口に含んだ瞬間の爽快な刺激と柔らかな口当たりを作り出します。それはまるで、鼻や耳をツンと刺すような凍てつく寒さの中で、ほっこり暖かく体を包んでくれるコートのような印象のビールといえるかもしれません。

Each year the recipe for each Kimagure beer is different, so we never make the same beer twice. There are themes for each season though, and for the last two years we have used citrusy and sweet hops in this White IPA to make a connection with the wide variety of citrus fruit that becomes available every winter. This year, though, we decided to focus more on the resinous character of hops with more bitterness and sharp flavor.
We are using Strata hops for their unique tropical character. Old favorites Idaho 7 and Mosaic help bring out the pungent and resinous side of hop flavor and aroma. This is balanced by a high percentage of wheat to keep the body and mouthfeel soft and refreshing. Think of this beer as the warm winter coat that keeps your body warm while the sharp cold on your nose and ears keeps you feeling invigorated!

Can from Isetan. Big citrus fruit, creamy wheat and biscuits, mandarin orange, lemon, yuzu, touch of pine, wonderful fruity nose. Almost clear, deep golde with a good head. Biscuity malt and wheat flavor, super fruity hops, some resins, medium bitterness in the finish. Creamy and wintery, yet fresh and crisp.

First up is: KBC Fuyu no Kimagure 2022 Great looking clear gold with a dense bubbly thick off-white head of foam. From a foot away it has a bright citrusyvhop bouquet but as I brought the glass to my mouth I got peppery and woodsy prickly pear notes. Mouth-watering. Medium to full bodied with a smooth mouthfeel. The tasteatches the aroma but adds a balancing malt sweetness. This beer is on point. Definitely give this year’s version a go.
