Chestnut, clear beer; very dense & fine, off-white head. Very discreet nose, with some dark malts and rye. Smoked faint roasted flavour on a bit of Bock-sweetness; bready, but not much. Slick, near-oily, well-bodied. Bit fizzy. One to treat with some respect, the somewhat restrained sweetness-roastiness making it an unusually drinkable Bock.

Bottled (Beer Hunters, without best before mark). Clear ruby red color, medium-sized beige head. Yeasy-bready nose with berry-like (strawberry, red currant) notes. Liquerish palate. Licorice, grassy, a bit alcoholic flavor with some toffee also. Hoppy and alcoholic aftertaste. Quite barley wineish, ale-like bock.

Bottle at the European Beer Festival, Copenhagen. A hazy, orange-amber beer with a beige head. A bit anonymous aroma with smoke playing the leading role and malty sweetness and caramel supporting. Sweet and malty flavor with some fruity notes and a smoke profile much more gentle than in the aroma. Probably too gentle. Medium to full body, almost sticky sweet. Long, sweet finish. There seems to be a little touch of DMS in it too. Far from a bad beer, but it didn’t impress. (080912)
