9/V/24 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker), shared @ home, BB: VI/2026 (2024-310)
A little cloudy orange beer, a bit solid creamy off-white head, stable, a bit adhesive. Aroma: malty, fruity, some tropical fruits, juicy, grains, orange peel, floral, intense, nice stuff! MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: lots of almonds, pretty oxidized that means, Amaretto, some alcohol, sugary, more oxidation, bitter touch. Aftertaste: pretty intense sweet and malty backbone, hoppy touch, fruity, some apple sauce, very decent one!

New strong ale by Het Nest, hopped with Cascade and apparently intended as an American style barleywine, a beer species very rarely executed by Belgian breweries so far. Thick, egg-white, regularly shaped, stable head lacing in shreds over a hazy ‘dirty orange’-hued peach blonde robe, turning deeper orangey with sediment. Dank and yeasty aroma, dried orange peel, ripe apricot, Grand Marnier, wet hay, pineapple, calvados, mugwort, hemp leaves, bread crust, fried apple, dry earth, ‘jenever’. Fruity onset, peach with side notes of banana and pineapple, sweet and a tad honeyish but not sticky, medium carbonated with rounded mouthfeel, a bit thinned by the alcohol; sweet-brioche-bready and bread-crusty malts under fruity esters and spicy phenols, leading to a long, rooty, earthy hop bitter finish with elements of dried citrus, wormwood and damp tree leaves mingling with lingering yeast and malt breadiness and earthiness on the one hand and unsurprisingly very pronounced, calvados- and ‘jenever’-like alcohol, taking over the bitterness from the hops in a rather crude way. That said, this one seemed a bit less crude than earlier superstrong Nest beers, some of which I deemed unpleasant because of it. As for ‘American barleywine’: not nearly clean, oily, bright and citrusy enough to qualify as such, I would rather consider this a Belgian IPA at ‘triple’ strength because of its earthiness and yeastiness. Not as expected, but passable.

Hazy amber colour, white foam. Nose of marzipan, dried fruit (plum, dates), boozy, some bitterness in the finish.

Donkergeel troebel bier met schuim. Smaak is bitterzoet en krachtig warm met iets van honing, wat banaan, citrus en wat graan.

33cl bottle. A clear golden beer with a white head. Aroma of pale malt, very neutral. Taste of semi strong pale malt, some grains, mild bitterness. Boring.

Starker, hell malziger Antrunk, deutlich alkoholisch. Erkennbar hopfig, was aber durch das intensive Malzaroma im Hintergrund bleibt. Süßlich, trocken, würzig, mild kräutrig. OK. 9/7/8/9/9/9

Dark blond colour with lasting dense head. Very full and grainy. There's a lot of grainy sweetness but also a nice rounded bitter aftertaste.
