500ml bottle @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, April 18, thanks to Mike for this cobweb-laced relic. Best Before 2007. Pours misty amber, off-white head. Aroma is dusty barley wine. Taste is dusty, caramel barley wine territory. Obviously not in ideal condition so rated in kind.

Lovely clear amber color with a fine off white head. Moderat caramel aroma with some floral hopps. Medium body. Mild caramel and mild fruity with a nice fresh hoppiness. Nice ale.

50 cl bottle as ”Founders English Ale” @ Viking Line Pub. Rated on 14.05.2011
Aroma has lots of toffee, some slightly fruity hops and hints of hay. Flavour is sweetish with toffee, some hops, biscuits and hints of caramel. Closer to a bitter than an ESB – and a boring one.

From BA: back in 2007. No mention on the bottle who brews it, but it does say brewed in Oxfordshire for Ushers on the rear label. So I am assuming it is from Wychwoods kettles. Good solid brown 500ml bottle, best before April 2008, drank August 2007. Poured into a Bateman’s pint sleeve glass, it looked fine, a good creamy head on top of an amber, teak red body. The aroma is of hops (the label says Goldings) and fairly sweet malts. The taste is very malty, full and heavy. The mouthfeel is thick and has a staying power, the maltiness hangs around. A most enjoyable ale, I will be having one of these again, that’s for sure.

Pours copper with a small head.Nose shows caramel, golden syrup and faint earthy hops. Sweet smelling.Pretty tame flavours, not as much caramel or toffee. Quite plain.Body seems somewhat watery.A relatively dumbed-down ESB.
