Long -lasting off-white head over a clear, dark amber /light brown bodied beer. Citrus hop/Belgian funky aroma. Goes over the tongue like a Strong Pale Ale. lingering bitter finish. Spritzy, medium bodied.

750ml bottle @Joe’s NYC Gathering courtesy of beastiefan2k–pours a rocky light tan head with cloudy amber color. Aroma is spice hops, yeast, pepper. Taste is dry, champagne, spice hops, yeast, pepper. Good effervescence, quick finish.

From Mix Master Backus, get on the mic. Pours a very thick dark amber color that one cannot see through. The head is small but strong and everlasting. Aroma is a great blend; first a layer of bretty citrus and then beneath that very calm leafy hops. I loved the combo of house brett with non-aggressive hoppiness. Taste is slightly spiky hops which are quickly overtaken by brett, which then quickly dissipates. Oh I could keep on smelling this forever and just gullping it down.

Pours light brown with tan head. It has that JP funky aroma. Mild hoppy flavor, peppery spices and a little sourness. Mediunm body with lively carbonation and a dry finish. Another well done brew by JP.

Bottle. Batch 288/289. Slightly hazy amber-brown beer with a light tan head. Slight tart aroma with light malt. Tart, lemony flavor with caramel, cocoa, light earth notes. Medium bodied. Lingering lemony tartness with caramel, spice, and earth. Hop flavor throughout to add depth.

Batch #278. Murky orange-red body with dense lacing, yeast sediment, and a thick, puffy, persistent beige head. Woody tart, sour aroma with strong herbal hops notes, iced tea, and perfume. The first characteristic of the body is tartness, followed by the development of big herbal hops that leave a long bitter finish. Soft and delicate palate, perfumey, that improves over the course of a glass as the disparate elements coalesce into the whole. A nice, quaffable beer.

Pour is a dark brown with a tall creamy white head. Aroma is some citrus hops, a little baryard and some allspice. Flavor is hops with spice again and dark carmel malts. Tasty and easy to drink and at only 4.7% this is something you could sip on all day.

Cask @ redlight. An unusual candidate for a cask ale, such a funky one this is. Starts with a ruby-brown color, medium head and nice heavy lacing. Aroma of funky sour malts and more funk. Pleasing sour funkiness indeed. There’s a touch of oak in here, along with an indistinct spiciness. Moderate sourness in the flavor, and an easy finish. What makes this strange is the lowered carbonation of a cask - beers of this type are usually overly fizzy so this is different to be sure. I’d like to try a bottle version.

Sampled at Manhattan Cask Fest - muddy brown beer - interesting aroma of biscuity british malt and the standard JP funk in relatively equal measure - this sets the tone for the flavor, which, at first, tastes like a slightly infected ESB - it’s kind of off-putting at first, but you get used to it - the malt is quite bready and british, as is the hop profile, and the JP funkiness builds up behind it - one character never overpowers the other, so they do remain in balance, and actually compliment one another well as the beer gets warmer.

Aged bottle, 3+ years old. Hazy amber with a thick head. At this age, the brett jumps out quite a bit, bringing fruit candies, malts and a generally Orvallish accent to the beer. Earthy and bitter body, with a dusty yeast character and a dry, hoppy finish. All this is punctuated with lightly fruity esters and brett accents. This is a beer that has matured and become more complex over the past three years.

Dark orangey-amber colour. Nice head, slight haze. Earthy with a bright apple note (bramley) and light chocolate. Finish is harsh, yeasty with a bit too much alcohol. 8-4-6-3-13 = 3.4
