Poes black, small tanned head. Smell is creamy, roasty, well hopped. Taste is roasty, hoppy, sharp, intense. Nice ( Sampled december 2018 ) 7.5/10

Redrank december 2021 ( obviously a newer batch :/ ) Was even more impressed with the balance between roast and hops, and gave it a slightly better score of 7.8/10 . Since this was a stand-alone beer , rather than a festival pour, i'mma keep the latter.

From my brother: pours black with a beige head. Aroma is piny, slightly herbal, chocolate and some citrus. Taste is fairly bitter and quite roasty. Some bitter aftertaste. Sticky mouthfeel a bit.

Pours an inky black, with smallish tan head. Aromas of roasted grain, hops, and coffee. Flavor is strong, roasted (almost burnt) grain, piney hops, citrus, and coffee. Very bitter finish/aftertaste. Delicious.

Had one in a becher pint glass, another in a mason jar and another in a tulip. The color is dark brown. The head retains the longest in the mason jar and leaves a ton of messy lace running all around.
The aroma blends semi-sweet to bitter thick sprucy hops. Thick sweet chocolate malts. Dark bitter coffee grounds, sly roast.
The flavor leans to the bitter spruce side first. Nice portion of the sweet dark chocolate nipping on some bitterness of the cocoa bean. Sly roastiness. Quick semi-bitter to sly roasty and sprucy aftertaste. Quick dry bitter finish.
On the palate, this one sat about light to medium on the body. Good carbonation. Bitterness hits appropriately, feels like a black IPA.
Overall, last review of 2016, it was a good year. I feel like I ended it right. This was good.
