Cane and Ebel is one of a series of special limited-run beers in styles that are more extreme or unusual. This unique red rye beer is full of hop flavor and aroma. We add 35 pounds of Thai palm sugar to each batch. The sugar does not add much sweetness to the beer, but rather a fruity and vanilla-like flavor. A new hop variety called Summit is really showcased here. This 18% AA hop is also very aromatic which gives a pungent citrus aroma. Then we heavily dry hopped the beer with Simcoe.

From Feb 2008

I got this in a trade with Joe1510. Thanks Joe!

It pours from 12oz bottle a clear copper with about a 2 finger head of foam and good lacing and boy, the head retention is very nice indeed.

The smell is a strong grapefruit but there's also some sweet malt sneaking through the cracks.

The taste has good notes of grapefruit which, btw, aren't as strong as I would have expected from the nose(not a bad thing!), roasted malt, some bread, some earthy tones, and caramel malt in the background. Nice medium mouthfeel here and it finishes slightly tart, slightly sweet. Good tasting brew!

I've only had a few beers that have Rye listed in the name but the one's I've tried have all turned out to be quite tasty and satisfying.

On tap at Two Brothers, pours a clear dark amber with a medium beige head. Aroma brings out earthy hops, light toffee and sweat socks. Flavour is similar, with sweaty herbal hops, earthiness and a light toasted caramel. The hops are really sweaty, as with their other hoppy beers I've had. Not a fan.

Bottle at Swan and Dolphin, Orlando, 10th November 14. Pours reddish brown, aroma is decent, not so hoppy, I don’t get simcoe. Taste is OK not too smooth, slightly heavy, drinkable, not great
