mikkeller christmas calendar #7 50cl can. I remember about 10 years ago (+/-), when I didn't really like brown ale very much. Then Ølfabrikken (the original one) went bust, and I managed to buy a case of rug ipa and brown ale at my local wine dealer. I knew and loved rug ipa, but figured that it was probably now or never to get more from this amazing brewery so i bought a case of brown ale too. boy, was that a good brown ale. both sweet and nutty AND hoppy. After that, i liked brown ale.. sometimes.. ANYWAY clear brown, light brown head.nutty roasted malty aroma with a solid hoppy balance. almost feels a bit woody-sourish to the aroma. ah - of course - that is the coffee.. flavor is roasted malts, sweet malts, the non sweet parts of the spices you might find in dark brown cakes, very delicate aromatic hoppy balance - mostly pine , doesn't really feel totally hoppy bitter, but the hops are solidly there - they just blend in perfectly, like a good black-ipa. very drinkable, if you fall asleep from way too many cans, perhaps the coffee can save your day and keep you awake all the way into the taxi. Good one, mikkeller.

Can 44 cl - De Proef version. Pours a clear, dark brown with a warm, orange hue and a solid, light brown head. Coffee and caramel aroma. Rich, malty body. Quite caramelly and nutty with a very distinct coffee note. Rather bitter finish. 151222

Can from Loz's Mikkeller Advent Calendar, I think that this was a Day 9 beer (having it on on day 10). Had this at home Saturday 10th December 2022 after watching England lose a very tense QF against France 2-1. We had Mousakka and Greek Salad for tonight. Pours almost black in colour with a huge frothy light beige head. The nose is dominated by toast, malt and coffee, roasty flavours aplenty and a little dark fruit edge. Lots of coffee, good but a bit of a one trick pony.

375mL bottle on Mikkeller Bar - Madrid, pours a deep dark brown with a medium beige head. Aroma brings out vanilla, lots of coffee, and some light metallic notes. Flavour is fairly metallic, with deep roasted coffee, lots of earthy malt, lactose, and vanilla. On the harsh side, but it's also just a strong beer. Robust and tasty despite not being elegant. Good.
