You hold in your hand a stout for stout lovers. Buried Hatchet is brewed with a large quantity of brown malt reminiscent of a traditional pre-Industrial Revolution malt profile. This stout is full of robust, roasted flavors which intermingle with a bittersweet creaminess that concludes to a perfect, warming finish. [Moving from stout to RIS given the high abv above 8% -GT2]

Dark Brown, Small head almost immediately dissipates leaving some spotty lacing. Sweet Malt Aroma. Very Sweet, Chocolate, Molasses, Fig, Raisins Clover, Bitter Coffee Like Finish. Reminds me of Goose Island Christmas Ale. More of Brown Ale or Porter than a Stout. Nevertheless it is Pretty Good. Enjoyed it.

Tap (nitro) at the Ginger Man, Houston TX, 21/05/13. Light black with a medium tan head that retains. Nose is roast malt, dark toffee, chocolate. Taste comprises bitter roast malt, molases, chocolate, maltesers. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry roasty finish. The alcohol is well disguised. Decent enough stout.

12 oz. can from a four pack purchased at Kegs and Barrels, Plano, TX. Pours a opaque brown color with a large tan head, nice retention. Awesome aromas of sweet roasted malt, bitter dark chocolate, and coffee with βlecheβ in the nose. Taste does not disappoint. Much of the same with a creamy texture and a body that is real light of a stout. Yet, the lighter body gives this a great chug-ability. The bitter chocolate gives it some balance without any hop presence. Lightly dry texture. The ABV is not found anywhere here. Malts make this lean on the sweet stout side butβ¦ I like sweet stouts. Personally for me this brew is upper tier. I killed two cans easily and wish I could buy this locally. Honestly a great stout well worth a try.

Can. Poured opaque brown to black with a large creamy beige head that dissipates with nice lacing. Aroma is strong dark roasted malt and espresso. Flavor is the same plus dark chocolate giving a mocha feel. Medium sweet with a light coffee bitter finish. Medium bodied but with a creamy mouthfeel.

Can. Coffee and sweet milk chocolate aroma, very mocha. Dark brown with a small tan head. Coffee, chocolate, earthy/ashy, and slightly acidic flavor. Light bodied for the style. It tastes and feels like a porter.

Got this one in a trade with a friend. 12 ounce can into snifter, no canning date. Pours hazy dark reddish brown color with a 1 finger dense khaki head with good retention that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Some decent spotty lacing on the glass. Aromas of chocolate, caramel, roasted malt, coffee, light charred malt, fruitiness, and herbal hops. Some pretty decent aromas here with good strength and balance. Taste of chocolate, caramel, roasted malt, biscuit, coffee, light fruit, and herbal hops. Light roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of coffee, caramel, roasted malt, and light fruitiness on the finish for a bit. Decent flavor balance, but is not nearly as robust as I expected for being over 8%. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy and fairly slick mouthfeel. Alcohol is very well hidden for over 8% with hardly any warming after the finish. Overall this is a fairly nice stout that is enjoyable. Some good roasted flavor balance; but not nearly as robust or roasty as I was hoping to get.

Relatively hoppy stout with a lot of herbal woody hops and a leafy tobacco like finish. Mild roast and bittersweet at the finish.

12 oz. can from De Bierkoning @ home. Good as black color, beige head. Aromaβs: heavy roast, ground coffee, bitter chocolate, lightly mocha (sweet). Slightly more sweet retronasal. Flavor is medium sweet, roasted, mocha-ish. Bit of a thin mouthfeel. Short finish, roasted and mocha. Pretty nice otherwise.
