You hold in your hand a stout for stout lovers. Buried Hatchet is brewed with a large quantity of brown malt reminiscent of a traditional pre-Industrial Revolution malt profile. This stout is full of robust, roasted flavors which intermingle with a bittersweet creaminess that concludes to a perfect, warming finish. [Moving from stout to RIS given the high abv above 8% -GT2]

Can sample at a tasting at kerenmk’s place. Thanks beerandbeyond. Clear dark brown. Aroma of coffee with a bit of chocolate notes and a bit of acidity. Roasty coffee-ish flavor with some sweetness, an acidic touch and a slightly drier finish. Medium-bodied. Decent.

12 oz. can at Mason’s Pub. Pours black with a small tan head. The aroma is coffee, molasses, caramel, and a little hay and lemon. The flavor is sweet up front, with roasted bitterness in the finish. The palate is medium, watery, and clean. Overall, this is a good stout, but doesn’t stand out.

12 oz can as pictured. Big black satifying looken pour. Smell is mmmm good dark & stoutty. Darrk and rich, almost borders on impy stout. I think I have tased impy stouts like this come to think of it. A little strong for a stout, don’t you think? Big medium strong alky impact, could say it hides the 8% well, seems more like 6. Finish is roasted slightly burned something like wet wood from an old damp campfire that used to have whuisky on it.

Received in trade from TexIndy, thanks as always for the opportunity. Pours a solid dark brown with ruby highlights and a tightly bubbled tan head that dissipates quickly to form a ring. Smells of creamy milk chocolate, roasted coffee, vanilla, slightly earthy, with a hint of dark fruits. Taste is sweet, creamy, and heavy on the milk chocolate. Chocolate up front with a hint of roast and dark fruit midway with a lingering roast and herbal hop bitterness. Creamy syrupy mouthfeel, light carbonation and medium body. This could be a dangerous beer if I could get it more easily. Drinks so creamy and smooth with no hint that it contains 8.5% abv. Great brew!

I’ll be damned if this beer, upon first whiff, doesn’t smell exactly like a Tootsie Roll. Closer inspection reveals strong roasted grain and a bit of mocha; turns out aromas like that of Buried Hatchet are reason why you have a nose in the first place. Very nice. The appearance scares me the slightest bit, pouring a dark red-brown but not black like a big stout should. Nice head though. Very roasted flavor, sweet chocolate mixed with espresso dryness, with a coffee liqueur finish. Slightly hot, but the can tells you it will be, so don’t bitch. Killer stout in a can, much more drinkable than the roided out canned thug that is Ten-Fidy.

12oz can pours a translucent, deep brown with a thin, creamy, off white head. Nose is malty, nutty, bread, grains, brown sugar, chocolate chips, some licorice. Flavor is nutty, malty, toasted bread, a little booze, some dried fruit, licorice, cracker, coffee, a touch of lacto sugar. Full bodied, dry finish. Very smooth. Very nice. Definitely beefy for a stout, but nice none the less.
