At Funkfest 2019 we had the pleasure of hosting Schneeeule from Berlin. They are one of our favourite breweries and we love how they brew German sour beerstyles with their own idiosyncratic twist.

Together we made a lichtenhainer using their house culture and added cranberries. The result is an unapologetically sour beer with a smokey touch, with the cranberries adding a tart sweetness.

Bottle from Lekkerbier, Sint Nicolaasga. Aroma is smoked grain, bready wheat, sweat, funk, old socks, cheese, tart cranberries. Nicely tart, moderate sour. Deep funky cheesy finish. Body is medium. Complex and wild indeed.

Aus der Flasche (bbe 31.07.2025) im 2022-10 getrunken. Dieses für das Funkfest 2019 gebraute Ale kommt mit einen feinen rose Farbton und kurzweilige weißer Schaumbildung ins Glas. In der Nase zeigt sich sofort eine fruchtige Säure und eine elegante, sehr gut ausgearbeitete Rauchnote. Sehr spannend! Am Gaumen zeigen sich diese Aromen auch wieder und der Körper wirkt für dieses Alkoholgehalt deutlich kräftiger. Eine tolle Überraschung im Glas!

Cloudy, orange-reddish color and a small white head. Funky, wheaty, tart cranberries and faint smoky.

Bottle. Color: Slightly hazy orange-red, off-white head. Aroma: Funky, moderate tart, fruity cranberry. Taste: Moderate tart, very lightly smoky, wild yeast farmyard and horseblanket funk, quite some fruity cranberry. Dry, bit astringent mouthfeel. Medium body, just below average carbonation. Nice.
