Final beer of 2024! 50 cl bottle with orange wax on top poured into a Snifter. Near black with a mahogany tinge and a thin, tanned head. Sweet aroma with ground coffee, brown sugar, vanilla, bourbon barrel, cookies, and herbal hoppy notes. The taste is sweet. Full body with an oily texture. Sweet finish with lingering bourbon barrel and coffee. Scores a solid 4.0. Could be a 4.1 or 4.2 if less sugary.

Bourbon barrel aged imperial stout from Denmark, from a perhaps somewhat lesser known craft brewery there, though I have encountered their beers before. Yellowish-beige, moussy, opening and thinning head lacing in dots over a black beer with thin burgundy edges. Aroma of melting dark chocolate bars, Brazil nuts, lots of vanilla-scenting oak wood, clear bourbon fitting in well, Chocotoff candy, reduced cream, 'boerenjongens', latté, brown honey, pecan nuts, caramelsauce, bayleaf, Oreos, mocha ice cream, teriyaki. Densely sweet onset, raisins, blackberry candy and dates, bit sticky with soft carb and very full, oily mouthfeel; light porcini-like umami lingering over a cashew-nutty, toffeeish, dark-chocolatey and pecan-like malt structure with coffee bean and cappuccino notes towards the end, the first adding something spicy and 'green' which matches with the bittersweet bourbon glow in the finish. Lots of vanilla-like oak, the vanilla element accentuated by the bourbon, also dominates in this stage, with a firm dosage of spicy hops providing structure underneath. The alcohol is 'long' and warming but never too sharp or wry, while this complex of vanilla, chocolate, nuts and coffee fills the back of the mouth and lingers after swallowing. Robust postmodern stout, very Scandinavian in a sense, but excellently rendered and worth its price tag. If this is indeed the first barrel aged beer by Gamma, then surely these guys knew what they were doing right from the start.

--Sample, thanks fonefan! -- Black, minimal head. Aroma of coffee, pear brandy and bourbon vanilla. Very sweet with full body and rounded mouthfeel. Pear, caramel and bourbon vanilla on coffee. Intense boozy finish. Not the most firm body ever.

Sample (thanks fonefan!). Black colour, small white head. Aroma is liquorice with some alcohol and chocolate. Flavour is chocolate, alcohol, liquorice and mild coffee to it. More aggressive in the aroma. Smooth flavour.

Bottle @ Kihoskh. Shared at work. Pours black with a small beige head. Green pepper, cold coffee, bourbon, vanilla and slight warmth from alcohol. Oily and slick. Comes across somehow underwhelming and disappointing.
