Brown colour with thin head. Aroma and flavour have lots of dried fruit sweetness. Hints of bread dough. Not sugary. Has a nice complexity.

Bottle @ home. dark brown color. Toffee, butter and a hint of roast in the aroma. Full bodied. Very sweet flavor with apricot, cinnamon and hints of roast and caramel. Buttery roastbitter aftertaste. There is some complexity next to the sugary sweetness.

Donkjer bruin bier met schuim. Smaak is zoet, en kruidig met iets van anijs, zoethout en karamel.

Remake (2007) of a regional beer from a former brewery (Verlinden) in Gierle, which stopped brewing in 1970. Thick, moussy, yellow beige, sticky head, deep bronze colour with calm sparkling of relatively large bubbles, clear. Sweet fruity aroma, very malty too, chocolate, pear, coriander, plum brandy, liquorice, banana, candied dates, molasses, walnuts, sweet honey, grassy hops. Full fruity taste, sweet, banana, pretty strong carbo, supple and somewhat ’fatty’ mouthfeel, chocolatey, nutty, very caramelly, widely spreading over the tongue and even a bit syrupy, some drying coriander, somewhat medicinal but in the spicy and not chemical way, with some weak herbal hops appearing in the finish - though clearly not enough to balance out the initial ’butterscotch’ sweetness which sticks to the throat, some warming alcohol too. In all quite decent but far too sweet for me.

Nice amber to red colour with yeast chunks floating in it. Firm head. Smells sweet and wort. Taste is just sweet. Good carbo, medium body.

Bottle @ home shared with DutchDrebus. Firm off-white to beige head. Deep dark mahogany red color with yeast particals in it. Smells sweet, not much more. Taste sweet with maybe a hint of caramel, not sure. Soft carbonation, medium body. Decent beer.

(bottle, 33cl) Hazy, ruby amber colour with a big and slightly beige foamy head. Sweet and slightly mouldy toasted malty aroma with notes of caramel and spicy notes of laurel. Sweet flavour with a tinge of bitterness, full bodied with a modest carbonation. Sugary and slightly toasted malty taste with caramel and earthy notes; sweet and slightly toasty bitter finish with mildly spicy notes and caramel and slightly alcoholic notes in the aftertaste. Too sweet while being too strong. 17.VI.11

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of fonefan. Pours a clear deep orangey brown with a rock solid beige head leaving laces. Aroma of sweet licorice. Solid body, lots of licorice, spices and dried fruits. Dry finish with hardly any biterness. Delicious. 041009
