The name is from a Mark Twain quote, "Heaven for the climate, hell for the company” – Helles is a sessionable beer, meant to be consumed by the liter in Bavarian biergartens with good company. For this beer, our traditional german-style pale lager is step-mashed, gently hopped with loral, matured in our cellar for 5 weeks and naturally carbonated.

On tap at The Arsenal, pours a cloudy bright yellow with a small white head. Aroma brings out soft crackery malt and light herbal notes. Flavour is along the same lines, with crisp crackery malt. Dry and crisp. Nicely made.

Draft at the brewery. Poured a totally clear golden color with a small head. Aroma was grassy notes, light earthy hops. Sweet corn, and light grain notes. Pretty drinkable for a style I don't normally enjoy a whole lot.

750ml bottle pours a hazy dark gold with some ringing, white head. Nose has a lot of corn and grain, yeast, dough, a little butterscotch. Flavor follows, lots of corn and cracker grains, soggy cracker, yeast, a little metal, some honey. Lightly floral too. Finishes sweet.
