It’s Alive! is Mikkellers answer and tribute to the trappist beer Orval. It’s Alive is an easy-to-drink beer, with a lot of hops. The color is amber, the foam is high, white and dense. The potent Brettanomyces culture makes It’s Alive continue to develop in the bottle.

Tap at Mikk&friends. Crazy, glowing salmon-orange, cloudy, lace. Hoppy, bretty, fruity, caramel nose, like a big Orval. Light funky, with peaches, orange, melon. Complex. Malty, yeasty flavor. Caramel, peaches, toffee, funk, grass, booze. A bit of a mess, though heading in intesting directions. Too malty, too boozy, though nice fruit and funk going on.

Bottle at home, from Drankengeers, 25/08/13. Pours golden amber with a good sized off white head. Nose is dark fruits, bitter orange, light hoppy backnotes, light spice, candied sugars. Taste comprises candyfloss, orange, sugars, subtle hop presence, toasted malt. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, light alcohol in the finish. Decent Belgian affair.

Bouteille 750ml.

29/03/2013 Open Baladin Roma (tap). Ambrata, limpida, schiuma bianca abbondante e discretamente persistente.

Not super alive. Underwhelming compared to some of the beers I tasted tonight from Mick at volos. Pours cloudy orange with great head and lacing. Brett is pretty light. Creamy texture laced with booze. Booze is prominent in teh aroma as well. A little sour with some bitterness.

Nice tribute to Orval, poured into Orval chalice. Amber color with silky, thin head. All else smells and tastes like Orval. Uncanny....

From a 75 cl bottle shared at Thanksgiving. 2011 vintage. Pours a cloudy pale amber with a big frothy head. Sweat, bready aroma. Smooth mouthfeel. Candy sugar and malt with some tartness. Very nice.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; pours a hazy amber with pillowy white head, spicy fruity aroma, sour bite at the back the throat on first taste, this subdued as it warmed to a pleasant sourness with cinnamon and a dry bitterness.

Cask at The Bishops Arms (Gustav Adolfs Torg) Malmo. Clear golden brown pour with a big frothy white head. Big malty fruit aroma with hints of caramel. The flavour is yeasty bitter zesty fruit and with caramel notes. The flavour sits nicely on the palate too. A very drinkable ale.
