It’s Alive! is Mikkellers answer and tribute to the trappist beer Orval. It’s Alive is an easy-to-drink beer, with a lot of hops. The color is amber, the foam is high, white and dense. The potent Brettanomyces culture makes It’s Alive continue to develop in the bottle.

Amber colour, off white head. Fruity aroma, pronounced brett, lots of berries. Light sweet malty flavour, very fruity. Fruity finish, touch of hops.
Lovely. I enjoyed it a lot. Another great brew by De Proef.

Bottle. Pours hazy brown, with a big creamy head. Aroma is acidic with lemony citrus, as well as white wine and oak. Flavour is sour with plums and unripe apples, and with a long lemony finish.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, best before 11/23/2012 on the cork. Cork did no pop off. Pours hazy reddish orange color with a fairly dense 1-2 finger off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of oak, raisin, red wine, pear, caramel, apple, wine vinegar, earth, grass, hay, herbal, pepper, leather, funk, and yeast spiciness. Very nice aromas with good balance and high complexity. Taste of oak, raisin, pear, caramel, pepper, earth, hay, leather, molasses, grass, clove, funk, and yeast spices. Lingering notes of oak, dark fruit, caramel, molasses, pepper, earth, herbal, grass, leather, and yeast spices on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance and complexity of flavor; no cloying flavors at all after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium body; with a fairly creamy and slick mouthfeel that is ok; definitely needs more carbonation. Alcohol is extremely well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very good Belgian wild ale. The taste was a bit odd at first, but it grew on me; nicely complex and smooth to sip on. Enjoyed this quite a bit despite low carbonation.

Bottle courtesy of Lewis. Pours light brown with a huge head. The nose has savoury biscuity-ness, even porridge. The taste has more of the same with yeasty notes and a biscuit thing like a bitter. The palate has a medium body with a clean texture and a long elegant finish. Overall, a lovely elegant beer.

In my system it scored a lot of half points so it’s hard to exactly turn this into ratebeer ratings. This beer is decent in smell, taste and colour, great in mouthfeel.

Bottle. Pours cloudy amber with rocky white fully lasting head. Aroma is very hoppy with strong scent of dandelions. There is also hints of soap and cola. Taste is light sweet, light acidic and moderate bitter in good balance and with a nice long finish. Body is oily with lively carbonation.

On tap at Night after Monsters. Pours a clear gold with a medium off white head leaving sticky lacing. The aroma is a floral hop and honey. Thin mouthfeel with a wheat grass and citrus flavor. Easy to drink, a very impressive Belgian strong ale from Mikkeller.

75 cl bottle @ home, BBE 16.12.2014
Vertical with a three year old bottle of Alight!, this was worse.
Aroma is surprisingly light and stale with too ripe fruits. No earthy notes or sourness whatsoever. Some biscuits and raisins though. Flavour has too ripe fruits, some earthy notes and spices. Also some unpleasant flavour that reminds me of raw plums. Lame, probably past its best already. Obviously this does not age as well as Orval does.
