As with Stone 02.02.02 Vertical Epic Ale, we are pleased to again make the full homebrewing recipe available on our blog. We used some pretty interesting ingredients this time around: coriander (a "Belgian-style" beer favorite!), alligator pepper (Wow! Bite into these little gems and you get a bigtime spicy rush of flavor), and a bit of both unmalted wheat and dark roasted wheat. And a blend of Belgian yeast and American ale yeast. And a nice selection of high alpha hops (a decidedly non-Belgian-style twist). All told it makes for a dubbel-ish taken-to-San-Diego-pushed-to-the-edge-and-slapped-around-a-bit beer. So treat it gently. It's been abused enough already.

Covid-19 cellar raid... Pours deep clear garnet into a Trappist glass. Mocha head with medium retention recedes to mottle surface. Brown bread and raisin aromas. Thick with dark caramel, toffee and mild licorice upfront, warm brown bread finish. This is actually pretty good for 17 years old...

3rd LCRBM. Malty, slightly yeasty aroma with apple and butter. Melon in the flavor. Wood, flowery and earthy hops. Just a bit thin (because of age?) and therefore somewhat alcoholic. Citrus and red berries in the aftertaste. Still an enjoyable beer.

Bottle thanks to Luke! Very cool. Pours a cloudy amber color with a medium white head. A spicy fruity nose. Certainly some oxidation, smooth, spicy, big sweet malty base. This is really good. Held up perfectly. Could drink lot.

22oz bomber, courtesy of a sweet trade with FlacoAlto, pours up with a clear brown body that supports a thin light tan head. The aroma is earthy and slightly oxidized and then brown sugar, molasses and oddness. The taste delivers soft molasses and brown sugar flowing into muted dates and prunes. It gets pretty earthy and oxidized here and there.

On tap at Flying Saucer for 12-12-12. Pours a cloudy amber with no head. Aroma is yeast, coriander, and raisin. The aroma is wood, yeast, spice. Thick mouthfeel with yeast and peppery finish. Held up well. Good

Draft on 12/12/12. This one has lots of coffee grounds, and a dry, chalky texture that isn’t very pleasant.

Bottle from BottleWorks. Rating from notes from 11/12/2010 tasting where I shred with Ratman and Doodler (I never entered rating) and bottle today 3/3/14. 11/12/2010 bottle Nose is corriander, toasted bread, and prunes. Clear brown with a medium beige head. Flavor is spicy, fruity, and a little of the toasted bread. Really nice and smooth with no oxidation from a 7 1/2 year old beer.

Bottle sampled at RBSG. From notes. Spicy and sugary. No hops or pepper, probably faded out a while ago. Still a great beer, and stoked to have the opportunity to try it.
