An unfiltered rice beer, Makku is a modern take on Korea’s oldest alcoholic beverage, Makgeolli. For the first time drinker - Makku is an unanticipated and new experience.
The liquid is smooth and hazy from the rice, yet is refreshingly light with just a kiss of sweetness. Bubbles give it a champagne-like suggestiveness.
Don't forget to give Makku a quick shake before drinking

355ml can. Pours an opaque off-white with a thin, foamy, short lived, white head that fully dissipates. (Looks like watery milk). Sweet aroma of rice, tart apple and funky yeast. Sweet flavour of rice, sugar, vanilla, funky yeast, alcohol and faint banana in a sweet finish. Light to medium body with a smooth, syrupy texture and soft carbonation. Unique and interesting, but a little too sweet for me.

Not a clue what I’m getting into here. The label said Korean rice beer, but whereas I was expecting something akin to a craft rice lager, what I got is this milky-white beverage before me. Sake-ish, except very sweet, tasting of rice and sugar and not offering any of the tartness mentioned in the description. Just sweet and mildly carbonated. Maybe it’s good for what it’s supposed to be? No fucking idea.

Lots of sweet rice here. Definitely has a sake-like vibe here. Sweet finish. Not sure I'd want to drink a lot of this, but it's interesting. Milky white gold pour with creamy head. Can.

Can at Dawa's: pours milky white. Description below of appearance is fairly accurate. Aroma is ricey. Tastes like sake sort of, but I suppose more attenuated and with less booze. Pleasant to drink though.

Can, from TapRm. Pours opaque white like rice water with white lumps inside, no head, sharp acidic rice aroma, high carbonation, sweetish alcoholic rice pudding taste, a bit like sake but much sweeter with alcohol undertones, smooth body, long sweet finish. Very strange at first try, but I kind of liked it.
