Licht troebel geel bier met schuim. Smaak heeft wat van zowel IPA als witbier, vrij bitter en fruitig met iets van citrus, grapefruit en vrij veel hop.

One of two novelty beers under the Palm flag (the other being a tripel called 8 Horse Power) as dictated by owner Swinkels to make this old-fashioned Belgian brand great again - I have not much trust in this. Can from the Albert Heijn supermarket in Lokeren. Thick and foamy, egg-white, dense, membrane-lacing, firm and stable head on a misty yellow blonde beer with pale apricot tinge and lively visible sparkling. Aroma of orange cake, white bread dough, fresh savory, banana mush, ripe apricot, green tree leaves, honey, hints of unripe mandarin, rubber, jute rope, plaster, old green tea, synthetic fabric. Sweetish, somewhat juicy onset, fruity with notes of banana (but far less strongly so than anticipated), pear and vague mandarin, lively carbonated with slightly souring effect, smooth and soft mouthfeel with the slightest metallic 'zing' around its edges. Doughy, white-bready and slightly grainy core under ongoing honeyish sweetness, wheat slickness being clear enough and adding a further sourish effect as well as something very lightly soapy; meanwhile these green-fruity aspect are carried towards a herbal, floral and citrusy hoppy finish, where - after a brief and faint array of retronasal aromas conveying the above - the bitterness gradually fades, leaving the doughy, residually sugary, banana-estery and eventually metallic aspects to linger. In all, a bit less industrial than I was fearing and frankly quite alright in relation to where it comes from; reminds me a bit of those often odd (and failed but still interesting) Arthur's Legacy beers Palm tried to save itself with before the Bavaria takeover. More drinkable than expected, but still a sweet and 'synthetic' industrial beer in its very core; as for style, this is apparently supposed to be a "white NEIPA" but then wheat malt is a very common component of a NEIPA's malt bill which may explain why "white NEIPA" (contrary to "white IPA" in general) is hardly ever used in craft beer circles... This is basically a Dutch style industrial Weissbier with added hoppiness and nothing more than that. That said, the hops do their job better than I was expecting and are truly the saviors of the day here. There is worse on the shelves of Albert Heijn, but much better as well, both in quality and in quantity.

Can from Albert Heijn.
A: hazy ochre, thin, off-white head.
A: orange, banana, apricot, wheat, vague clove.
T: sweet orange, apricot, wheat, bread, spices.
F: floral hops, yeast, banana, slight bitter orange pith.
P: medium body, slick texture, average carbonation.
Surprisingly well made attempt - perhaps influenced by 'neighbouring' Uiltje?

0.33 l can from 'Mr. Hop', best before February 2024. Hazy, orangeish golden with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, white head. Sweetish, quite fruity-floral, slightly yeasty aroma of peach, pineapple and some banana. Quite sweet, moderately bitter, rather fruity-floral and slightly yeasty taste of peach, pineapple, some grains and a touch of banana, followed by a short, moderately bitter, minimally tart finish. Medium body, smooth but quite effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice beer!
