Unusually light, agile, yet complex, Unicorn hasn’t changed in over a hundred years. It was originally brewed by Frederic for his father William, at the Unicorn Inn, from where the beer eventually took its name, and where the Robinsons Brewery still stands. Dripping with heritage, it’s a magnificent, thirst-quenching, thoroughbred bitter. The first of a bloodline that continues to this day.

Cask at Swan with Two Necks, Stockport (not listed in RateBeer) Pours a golden yellow with a small white head and good lacing. Gentle hoppy aroma. In the mouth is a fresh sweetish mixture of fruit, hops, corn and a trace of ginger. Hops and fruit linger in the dry finish. Drunk this a few times before and not though much of it, but this one was quite nice. Maybe due to proximity of brewery ?

Tap, Proeflokaal Delft. Thin and a bit watery. Pear flavor with only a touch of hops. Slight dry out effect. Pear aftertaste. Not good!

Cask at the White Hart, Holyport. A pale amber pour with a loose white head; floral aroma with a hint of root ginger; sweet taste with some red fruit and dry herbs; then a dry finish with a trace of money. Rather good.

Rerate. From cask at Castle Hotel, Manchester, with JFE 19.01.18. Clear dark golden. Dense and persistent bright white head and lacing. Excellent taste of pale malt, grains and English hops. Bitterness and grains are lingering on. Creamy, smooth and velvety mouthfeel. Excellent quaffability! From tap at Castle Hotel, Manchester, 30.11.17. Clear golden. Dense and persistent white head and lacing. Aroma of moderate American hops, pale malt and succade. More a golden ale than a bitter. Drinkable. Lime in aftertaste. [5/4/5/3/9=2.6]

Cask at Baltic Fleet. Pours a gold with a white head that lasts throughout the beer and laces. Aroma has notes of bread and grains with a touch of earthiness backing. Flavor has bread and biscuit with a bit of earthiness supporting.

Cask at Briton's Protection, Manchester. Pours cloudy orange, white head. Malty, some vague fruit, caramel, sweetish, some light bitterness in finish. Light bodied.
