Double IPA – A strong and full bodied ale with intense hop characteristics and a deep golden color. Multiple kettle hop additions and generous dry hopping contribute to the powerful bittering and fragrant hop character of this beer. Double IPA pairs nicely with shellfish and spicy dishes.

Hazy amber beer. Decent frothy white head. Light hops on the nose. Soft palate, a little dry. Quite a sweet IPA. A little caramel malt gives way to sweetish marmalade orange and a trace of pineapple. Quite a bit of aniseed alcohol in the soft finish. Nice.

Bottle sample at a spring beers tasting at Norma Jean. Clear deep golden-copper. Aroma of old hops and a bit of malt. Sweet and malty flavor and a bitter finish with some somewhat stale hops. Medium-bodied. Seems old.

It finishes moderately sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, sticky texture, moderate carbonation. Lots of hot alcohol in the finish. Taste of orange juice and citrus. Overly sweet. Overly hot.

Purchased at Hyde Park Wine & Sprits in Cincinnati, OH; enjoyed on a Friday night trying to relax after a long work week. Appearance a very cloudy, grapefruit like gold with a thin white head that laces to the glass. Aroma is very unusual, more malty than hoppy and pretty sweet, like a mixture of caramel and passion fruit or mango which I didn’t think should go together and I still kind of agree. Taste also unusual, like a candy bar covered in hops, higher than usual carbonation makes it so that I’m belchy with a weird candy / grass mixture. I can’t say that I like this at all., would rather drink this than a mass produced lager, but not a good one from the craft beer realm.

12 ounce bottle into tulip. Pours slightly hazy orange amber color with a fairly dense 1 finger off white head with good retention that reduces to a thin lacing cap. Aromas of huge amounts of grapefruit, orange, caramel, lemon, mango and a bit of pine; small amount of booze as well. Huge sweet aromas here, with very little spiciness, all fruits. Taste of big orange, grapefruit, mango, caramel, and a bit of pine. Decent amount of bitterness on the finish that lingers with citrus, caramel, and pine flavor. A very malt forward DIPA. Low-medium carbonation with a fairly full body. Surprisingly no alcohol noticed except for a warming on the finish, well hidden. Overall, a good DIPA, enjoyable stuff.

12 oz. bottle, split with Matts_Property, pours hazy golden orange with a very small white head. Aroma of wonderfully floral hops, pungent grapefruit, balanced by copious amounts of caramel malts - wonderfully balanced on the nose. Flavour of lots of resinous hops, floral notes, tons of grapefruit and backed beautifully by caramel malt. Lingering resin notes, with a bit of an alcohol kick. Wonderful IIPA.

Surprisingly malty for an on-tap DIPA. Way malty. Like, maybe one of the maltiest IPAs I’ve tasted. And we’re not talking after 6-months on the shelf malty. I’m told this beer is fresh. I can see the more hop-phobic beer geeks digging this IPA, for sure; the usual citrussy, orange glazed hop bitterness bounds wildly across your palate, but everything is cushioned with a caramel-tinged lining. Scary smooth, though. The alcohol sneaks into your bloodstream with the slightest of tingles, leaving you questioning the objectivity of your beer reviewing. Good thing nobody reads these. (2008)

Light hazy golden with a white head. Powerful citrus hops and caramel malts in the aroma. Medium bodied. Sweet, bright, citrus fruit, light grapefruit, light lemon, sweet malts that border on caramel flavor but don’t really get there. That makes for a more enjoyable IPA as it sweetens the fruit but doesn’t really add any more flavors to the profile. No alcohol which blows my mind as the light flavor lend themselves to being demolished by the 10.6% abv. I could see being tricked into thinking this is a sessionable IPA if I hadn’t already known the abv. Quite nice.
