Simcoe Dry-Hopped Lambiek

This Lambic underwent dry-hopping with Simcoe Cryo Hops® Pellets. The cryogenic process, developed by Yakima Chief Hops, allows more aromatic components to be extracted from the hop flowers, resulting in an intense hop character, without excessive astringency or grassy aftertaste. With Simcoe hops, citrus notes predominate, along with accents of stone and tropical fruits.

Draft pour at Zwanze Day 2026, at The Sovereign in Washington DC. Poured a mostly clear golden orange color with a foamy white head. Aroma was some citrus, earthy hops. Flavor was citrus, hoppy, with some tartness. Something doesn't quite work for me with this one.

A lightly hazed golden ale with a thin lacing white head. In aroma, sweet malt with light Brett, light lactic notes, horseblanket, Epsom salts, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity ground cherry, light lactic notes, light Brett, horseblanket, Epsom salts, very nice. On tap at L'autre oeil.

Poured from the tap @ MBCC 2023 (finally adding my notes). Hazed gold with no head. Feint hops, light funk, needs more body.

I lost count of how many single-flavoured unblended experimental lambics Oud Beersel has produced in the past few years so far – but most of them have proven very entertaining, so I never skip one when I see it advertised somewhere, in this case Bar Beenhouwer (which usually has one on tap). Cheers Meeki! Thinnish, snow white, moussey, opening head on a misty deep yellow-golden robe with somewhat khaki-like tinge. Aroma of freshly cut lemon and lemon zest, freshly mown lawn, lime peel, wood sorrel, fresh spring onion, unripe mandarin, background structures of old wood, stale sweat and pickled gherkins. Refreshingly lemony or lime juice-like onset, citrusy but not overly acidic, softish carb, smooth and somewhat vinous body; dry bread-crusty graininess under drying yet fruity lactic tartness (green apple) and ongoing lime, teaming up with drying woody tannins and the hops – accentuating this bright yellow-green, radiant fruitiness, blending freshly crushed green gooseberry and Granny Smith apple with lime and lemon as well as spring onion and sorrel. Simcoe does not, however, become too oniony here: instead it retains its youthful citrusiness and lends the lambic a beautiful brightness and crispness, accentuating the lemony aspect in a soft, very easily drinkable, colourful way. A little gem, this one – absolutely delicious!

Draught Just a white ring over clear, yellow-ochre beer. Sulphur, burnt rubber, tarr, bit leather, horseblanket. Sour-ish, lots of lactic acid, hints at malonic, lemon, and again leather, mineral... but not hoppy? Then, after some time in the finish, the grapey notes of Simcoe appear, I pari réussi /I, and gradually increasing to determine the character of the beer. Good! (OK; better).

Draught at Sibeeria Taproom, small bubbly head, hazy deep orange colour, aroma of minerals, stinky toilets and a hint of wood, strong lactic flavour, a bit of minerals and ripe oranges behind and a hint of nectarine that is getting stronger, medium sourness. Nice and interesting.

Golden body, off-white head. Lightly tart herbal aroma, for some reason I put Speculaas there, likely wanted to write down spicy. Lean dry taste, apple, dry, bitterish... not sure, the notes sucked for this. To be rerated, I really didn't dig it for whatever reason.
