Formerly known as Sebourg beer, this abbey-type beer was rebaptized Saint Druon de Sebourg in 2000, as a tribute to Saint Druon and the little church in Sebourg, the next village to Jenlain. Malted barley and 3 varieties of hops grown in Alsace form the basis of this recipe, which, unlike Duyck’s other beers, also contains wheat from the Beauce region of France to give it an even more distinctive flavour, the Duyck’s use a specific strain of yeast exclusive to the beer.

Pour is a golden blond with a white head. Aroma is grassy and spicy. Flavor is some grain and yeast with a slight banana. The problem with this beer is that its extremly watery and thin. Nothing really settles on your palate. Would probably be a good lawnmower beer and it was pretty cheap at $4 for a corked and caged bottle.

Bottle. Amber beer with an off-white head. Slight sweet malt, hay, skunky hop, and spice aroma. Slightly sweet malt flavor with good hop qualities (citrus and spice). Medium body. A bit of breadiness lingers with hops. Refreshing. Not bad.

Pours bright gold into a snifter. Fluffy white head recedes to skim surface. Malt and candi aromas. Active carbonation with pepper from front to back. Slightly sweet finish.

Bottle, 75cl corked. (6%) Pours a clear, golden-orange body, with a big, fluffy, white head, leaving nice lacings. The aroma is mostly grainy, but it s also fruity and slightly spicy, but quite subdued. The mouthfeel is medium to full, with a good deal of co2, and sweetish. Far from overly sweet though. It has a quite fruity flavor, with grains and bitterness finding it’s way after a second or two, and some notes of cellar in the background. It finishes rather dry, with a nice fruity bitterness. A very drinkable beer, which maybe could have gotten a higher score, partly due to that, then again, maybe I was just thirsty. Anyway, I liked the bitterness in it. (071022)

330 cl bottle in tulip, served at the Hop Leaf. Makes a better bière de garde than the abbey ale it professes to be, but a good value at $5/bottle. Lightly malted smell, a slightly hazy corn kernel yellow under a thick, fluffy Belgian head that turns to seafoam. Slightly sour smell once my nose fits in the glass. Taste has the sweetness of Belgian pils malt. Some cherry tartness, then dryness in the same sip. Notes of black pepper and cardamon, too.

Light grassy aroma, with sweet, honeyish malt. Brassy gold color with a decent white head. There is some very light lacing. Thin bodied. Thin fruit flavors, a bit of sour. Light yeasty spice notes. The finish is dry, and there is a bit of bitter! Reasonably flavorful. Grows on one.

Hops! Spicy and herbal, then there’s a layer of caramel/brown sugar, but also an apricot like fruitiness and just a touch of phenol, enough to remind me this is a Belgian ale. Slick, sweet mouthfeel. Candyish and lightly phenolic. Slightly bitter/metallic in the finish, probably arising from the higher hopping rate. Hazy yellow-orange color with a soapy looking head.

Bottle. Grassy barnyard and sour malt aroma. Cloudy tan color with small head. Light flavor of grass/hay and sour malt with moderate hops finish. Nice tasting - has quite a bit of hops kick but fairly light body - wish it had a stronger flavor.
